Convertible or Jeep in Maui

I'd go with the convertible, even though the rental companys say not to, you can go all the way around in a car no problem. can't think of a place you would need the 4WD

Definitely a convertible. We drove beyond Hana around the island in our Hertz Mustang convertible. You do not need a jeep.

When we rented a jeep on Oahu (son really wanted the experience), it became obvious there was no way to leave anything out of site in the jeep. It is probably a good idea not to leave anything of value in the vehicle, but it sure is nice to have a trunk for out of site storage. For this reason I like the car idea better.

We rented a Jeep in Maui. Its true that you don't have a lot of trunk space to store your belongings but then again, it wouldn't be wise to bring a lot of things with you. We had the top down the whole time and we did not run into any problems. It also depends on how many of you are going. There were only the two of us so putting our luggage in the backseat was not a problem. I wouldn't suggest you to rent a Jeep if you have more than 2 people. Your luggage would not fit! However, when we went on the road to Hana, we were able to climb the unpaved road a lot faster than other cars (we went through the back roads). Even though other cars were able to go on the unpaved road with no problem, they had to do it at a snail pace.
