Convention Center Lodging

We are planning a trip to Oahu next summer and are looking for recommendations for lodging near the Convention Center. Also, I've seen listed rack rates for various hotels that seem outrageous to me! What can I realistically expect to pay for ocean front in say, the Hawaiann Hilton ( and is it too far to walk to the Convention Center)?

You might want to repost with Oahu in the header. There is no Hawaii board. Everything goes on the United States board. Just about all US cities have convention centers.

The Ala Moana Hotel is within easy walking distance (less than one block):

I usually stay there when on O`ahu for business...nice staff, good room service (when I'm too tired to eat out, a blessing), and adjacent to Ala Moana Center (for power-shopping!!).

Call the hotel -- ask them what their "best rate" is (usually lower than published).

auntiemaria, You would choose there over the Hawaiian Hilton...was thinking of the beach access, since hubby will be meeting and I will not. Thanks! OSB.

Auntimaria, Do you stay on the Ginger Torch Floor? Is it worth it and why, please?
Also, this is for July '05, so when do you think we should make the reservations? OSB.

Hilton Hawaiian Village is a l-o-n-g walk from the Convention Center (do-able, but...)

I got upgraded to the Ala Moana's Torch Ginger floor -- the only thing different between these floors and the others is, you get a robe (which I don't need), a steam shower with (older model) whirlpool tub, and the rooms are on the upper floors of the hotel.

As long as they don't stick me in the Kona Tower (cheaper, but ugh-ly!), I prefer the regular rooms -- any view they want to give me, is fine. We got an oceanview room on the 4th of July; sat our lanai and watched the fireworks over the beach. Delightful!

the Ilikai Hotel on Ala Moana Blvd
is quite a bit closer than the Hilton

Thanks for the helpful replies! I think the assoc. is going to have a shuttle to the cv. I think I'd like the beach at the Hilton and DH is leaving it up to me. The Royal Hawaiian is even on the "approved" list for the association meeting, and it's even further than the HV, so maybe we'll be alright there. Thanks again!OSB.
