Consumer Reports Travel Letter
 

I just received an offer to subscribe to Consumer Reports Travel Letter. I already subscribe to Best Fares and am not sure if I need both or which of the 2 is better. Does anyone subscibe to Consumer Reports Travel Letter and would recommend it? Thanks! <BR>

I subscribe to Consumer Reports Travel Newsletter and have for several years. I like to be informed and know the market place when buying. I find Consumers helps me do that. I do not know that I have directly translated its advice into savings on a specific purchase. <BR>But, I know about what I should pay for rental cars, motels, air line tickets, and train passes in Europe. (For example, are you better off buying a Eurail Pass, several regional passes, or individual fares?? Consumers had an excellent analysis table that helped me reach that decision. After weighing the options, I decided on a Swiss half fare card.) <BR> <BR> <BR>By reading it, I feel like I know what is going on inthe travel industry and that I am not ignorant of the market prices where the travel business is concerned.

Alfreda, <BR>I've subscribed to Consumer Reports Travel Letter for four years and found it to be invaluable. Provides a great deal of information: evaluations of comfort levels on airlines; comparison ratings on auto rental companies, domestic and European; rates hotels, hotel packages and discount programs; gives health scores on cruise ships; rates frequent flier programs. Discusses travel scams, best buys. I've referred to it frequently in responding to queries on European travel here at Fodor's forum. Go for it, particularly if you are a frequent traveler.

I use the Consumer Reports Travel Newsletter often, but with this disclaimer: when I need it, I go to our city library and read it there for free. I write down the information I need and then use it! Check if your library has the magazine and read a few issues. You may decide it has so much good information you'll want to subscribe. But then you'll know it's because YOU think that it's useful to YOU.
