Construction at the Renaissance Wailea?
We are planning to stay at the Renaissance Wailea next month and have heard there may be noise due to construction next door. Has anyone been there recently that could advise on how much of a problem it is? We are planning to stay at one of the oceanfront Mokapu Beach Club rooms using the Entertainment card dicount($265/nt). Any opinions on whether these rooms are worth the extra money (about $75/nt more than ocean view room)and how these rooms might be situated with regard to the ongoing construction?

I too am considering staying at the Renaissance and would like to know about the construction noise.

We stayed at the Renaissance in Wailea Feb 19 for 5 nights. They start construction about 8:00 am and end around 4:00 pm. We stayed in one of the oceanfront rooms on the top floor and if you are in the room during those times it was definetely a little on the noisy side if you have the patio doors opened. The rooms that are closer to the pool would not be as noisy but we loved our view and we weren't in our room that much during those times. The Mokapu Beach club would probably be quieter and you wouldn't have the view of the actual construction site (try to get as far as you can from that end). We used our Marriott points and spent and extra $50 to upgrade to an oceanfront room. We were told at the time of arrival about the construction and if we were not happy with our room they would try to accommodate us. Since Hawaii is 4 hours earlier than our central time we were usually up early and had breakfast on our deck before construction, then go for a walk, then we went to the pool and beach or golfing, or boating, so we didn't have a problem. I think if we would have wanted to take a nap it might have been a little noisy but if we shut the patio doors it was less noisy. I didn't see inside of the Mokapu beach club so I don't know what it has to tell you if its worth the extra but the location is great and you have your own pool and probably a great ocean view. We had a great experience and even though I would have preferred they didn't have construction noise it didn't really interefere with us. It's definetely a great deal compared to the other resorts there. If I had the money I would love the stay at the Grand Wailea, Kea lani, or the Four Seasons but besides the cost they were totally booked. We moved to the Maui Prince for the rest of our stay only because we got a great rate but I liked the Renaissance better, but if you want quiet its definetely that, very secluded. Good Luck! Hope I was helpful?
Bebe,

My husband and I are also staying at the Renaissance in the Mokapu Beach Club rooms in May and I had the same concerns about the construction. But the hotel told me the worst noise is over, and since we arrive on Saturday we can still find plenty of things to do if its a little loud during the week(drive to Hana or Haleakala, take a snorkeling cruise, etc). The hotel did say that the construction is from Monday - Friday, 8am to 4pm. However, we couldn't pass up an oceanfront room for the rate we got with the Entertainment card. Everything I've read about the hotel is excellent, so I'm not going to let the noise bother me. Hope you have a great time! Let us know all about it.

We are staying at the Rennaissance for our honeymoon in May. Where is the construction? Is it on the property, or on another adjacent property? This is the first I have heard of this, and am somewhat concerned. Please fill me in.

Thanks!

I had heard that the construction was adjacent to the Renaissance. It is not part of the Renaissance property so apparently they have no control over it. I believe that they are building a number of individual homes and that the construction is expected to continue at least until the fall of this year.

I heard that the construction was at the Outrigger hotel next door doing renovations. Not sure which it is but we were thinking of going the end of Oct.....maybe we need to rethink our hotel choice.

When I checked the Hawaii Connection website about the Renaissance it stated "There will be new residential homes being constructed in a vacant lot adjacent to the Renaissance Wailea until the fall of 2001. There may be intermittent noise during the day and all of the noise and construction is beyond the control of the Renaissance Wailea."
The construction going on next to The Renaissance is on the north side - The Outrigger is on the south. They will be building upscale condos, I believe 14 in all. In December, there were 2 left to be sold. Our room was close to the pool and restaurant area -we did not hear a sound, I think being oceanfront makes a difference. The couple who stayed in the room across from us, garden-view, had many complaints about construction noise. We have only viewed Mokapu from the outside, but, when we return we will be staying at the hotel - oceanfront. Hope this helps.

We stayed at the Renaissance from Feb 15-17, our terrace view room was on the south side of the hotel. We did not hear any construction noise while in our room or at the pool. I don't think we heard any at the beach either. The construction did not effect our stay at all. The clerk at check-in was very helpful in helping us choose a room away from the construction, but we had called several weeks beforehand to request a quiet room. Our flight home left Maui at 10PM, while check out at the Renaissance was at noon we weren't sure how we would spend our last day; we were able to leave our bags with the bellman and use the resort facilities for the rest of the day. They even let us use a hospitality room to shower before we left to check in for our flight. We really enjoyed our stay at the Renaissance and would highly recommend the hotel.

We stayed @ the Renaissance in the Beach club rooms.. They are just great and are well worth the extra $$.. I don't think the construction would be too much of a problem. The private pool is nice and the snorkeling on the left side of the beach is just marvelous!!!
