Constitution Hall area--safe?
 

I'm wondering what this area is like at night. I'll be taking in a jazz concert on saturday 6/23 and I'm not sure about the area. I'm familiar with Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan, but that's about it. Also, should we look for restauarants near Constitution Hall? Or eat somewhere else entirely? <BR> <BR>Thanks.

Heather, Const. Hall is in a relative safe area, I suppose, but the street are a bit dark. I'd stay with folks, and use a taxi after the event. I do not recall any restaurants close to it. Your best bet would be to have dinner along Pa. Ave.in the NW area of DC, and then taxi over to the Hall (probably 10 minutes). There are no Metro stations close by either. Ciao

Hi Heather, I've been to CH many times and I've never felt uncomfortable in the area. Since I drive over from VA, I try to get there early in order to secure a parking space. A really good restaurant to try is the Old Ebbitt Grill. It is located on 15th & Pennsylvania Ave., totally within walking distance to CH especially on a nice night. You will also see a lot of uniform Secret Service officers around. You'll be very close to the White House. To be honest with you I find that area pretty romantic at night because of the glow of the street lamps, the architecture of the buildings and you're sure to come upon a running fountain nearby. Enjoy the concert. Oh, one other thing if you are driving be aware that there are now parking restrictions in DC as late as 2am. So, read those signs carefully.

Thank you both for your replies. The area was completely safe. Felt right at home. We ended up eating at Jaleo (7th/E)..highly recommended if you like Spanish Tapas. <BR><BR>Anyway, thanks again.<BR>

Great, Heather. Jaleo is terrific. One time our food reviewer for the Post, Phyllis Richmond, said that she imagined having to move to the mid west, and if so, what restaurant in DC would she take with her. Jaleo ... because of the variety it offers. So, you made a great choice. And this reminds me my own return (probably my 40th) is overdue. Jaleo has already helped turn the 7th Street NW area into a diverse and interesting place. Ciao
