connections between island in Hawaii?

I was wondering if there were any options of transportation between any of the major Hawaiian islands, other than by air? I had heard, when I was out there, several years ago, that there were ferries connecting some. Does anyone have information on this?

For inexpensive flights:

$78 round trip thru 9/30 and $86 in October

Bill, that is exactly what I was looking for! Then, to my dismay, I noticed that it doesn't start till AFTER our trip. How disappointing. It looks like our only option is to fly.

Does anyone have any particular good or bad experiences regarding interisland airlines. I flew Aloha on our last trip, but I seem to recall another airline as well.

Alohaaa LL,
Do we have a minor fear of flying?

Never had a prob on Hawaiian Air. Plus it's only a 20 min flight to Kauai and probably less to Molokai, Maui.

Mrs Kal had a prob on Mahalo Air when it was running. Little turbo props and we were in a BIG T'storm so....well you know the rest. :& :& :& :&

Thaks Kal. It's good to hear from you again. You gave me some good advice when I was planning a similar trip about four years ago. Ironically, I had just gotten rid of all my HI info, when we decided to book again! I wish the ferry were starting up sooner, as I think it would be more enjoyable to travel that way, and look out over the water. No particular fear of flying. We took a similar fery in New Zealand and it was great.

My pleasure LL. >:D<

Maybe save your time and fly and then take a nice NaPali cruise around Kauai? :-?

I'm definitely open for that. Will have to look into it!

It'll be interesting to see 282 cars or equiv in trucks disembarking the ferry at Nawiliwili :) Instant traffic jam.

pspercy, in New Zealand, with this type of ferry [very upscale] you had to drop off the car prior to boarding, and then pick up another upon arrival. It may sound involved, but keep in mind, if you were flying it would be the same. I don't know what would happen if the car were your own, but this was how the rentals worked. And, it went very smoothly.

Thanks for sharing the superferry info Bill. That's going to be fantastic! :-)
