Connecticut lighthouse tour

We want to go for two days from NJ to Connecticut, just an R&R weekend but we want to look at several lighthouses while there. Either stay in one, if available or at a B&B.

We have a two year old daughter, and a seven and a half pregnant wife so walking long distances is off.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Why lighthouses?
Because we noticed they are usually in a very scenic place, with good food around, and usually our daughter can run amuck in the area, without being able to go anywhere.

I never thought of Connecticut as a lighthouse visiting kind of state. According to this website, very few are open to the public or in good shape

In Groton, Ct there is a great beach area (with a playground) to relax and let your daughter play on, all while looking right out at Ledgelight. It is a big red lighthouse, which I think is quite beautiful. It is out on a rock, so not where you can walk to. I don't know if there is a way to go out by boat and tour it at all, but maybe other posters will know.

zlaor,

Why not just stay in NJ and go to Cape May (if you haven't been there already), it has everything you're looking for! Lighthouse, r&r, etc.
Great weekend getaway!

PrincessDee, we're looking into Cape May as well. We've been to Cape May several times, and wanted to go somewhere we haven't been. Most likely this will be our last weekend getaway before my wife give's birth in May.

zlaor,

Have you done the boat tour of lighthouses out of Cape May? Did that quite a few years ago, and it was really good if you are interested in lighthouses. Takes you to see 6-10 (can't remember the exact number) lighthouses that you can't see from land, buffet lunch included. If you want, I can look up my trip info for you. It only goes out a few times a year.

Hi Dee,

that's a great trip. We will certainly do it in the future, thanks for the tip.

We decided to go to New Haven, CT, about 2 hour drive, but will make many stops on the way.

Any suggestions? Not only lighthouses but other things to see or do?
