Putnam is in what is called the Quiet Corner of Connecticut. It is definitely a place to go for antique shopping. Putnam is well know for its several antique shops right in town. Here is a link to an article about it. Depending from how far you are coming, it could be worth a trip.

I believe the towns you want are Southbury and Woodbury in the beautiful NW part of CT.

"Connecticut, An Explorer's Guide" is a terrific resource for antique shopping - and everything else. Tons of information not included in any of the other tour guides, or on the web, which is good for a lot of things, but not everything.
