Coney island - !!!

We (myself and my daughters 12 & 18) are visiting NYC next week and I haven't been able to find many reviews about Coney Island.
Looking to spend about 6-7 hours there or could plan to visit on a Saturday with no time limit to be back but worried about how busy it will be on a Saturday. Wondering about recommendations on food, the beach and if its worth the visit (We are only in New York for 3.5 days)

Thanks!

3.5 days gives you very Little time to see very much in NYC. I certainly wouldn't waste any of that time going to Coney Island.

Depends. It is summertime so might be fun to do. Maybe the OP doesn't live near an ocean and doesn't get to go to one often. I've never been so can't give any information about it but like anything else, depends on the OPs interests. Take a look around here and see if it interests you:

The New York Aquarium is open but has limited exhibits, still finishing its rebuilding from Hurricane Sandy damage. Check online that enough exhibits are open for your interests before making the long trek from Manhattan.

I remember the squeals of children seeing the fish and sea nettles for the first time. Are the Penguins still there?

I still have to make the point that with such a short time in NYC, using a full day to go to Coney Island is a waste of time. Believe me, Coney Island is fun and interesting, but that leaves only 2.5 days for NYC. That will barely scratch the surface.

What may be a waste of time for you doesn't mean it is for them. Maybe a break from walking all over Manhattan in the middle of summer will be just what they need or want.

For food I like Cafe Glechik.

Cafe Glechik ~ Coney Island (718)616-0766, (718)616-0494, Sheepshead Bay (718)332-2414 | Russian Restaurant in Brooklyn

My other fave is Tone Cafe on Neptune Avenue for the "cheese bread." If you've never had this Georgian treat you are in for a big surprise. Also easy to walk to from Coney.

Two things: A) Coney Island is part of NYC; and B) they donít necessarily have to make a full day of it.

We have visited Coney Island a few times and enjoyed it every time, with and without children. (My inner child is alive and well). We love visiting beaches, and seeing different ones. The boardwalk is huge, Nathan’s for a fab hotdog, and don’t miss the Freak Show, possibly the only one left. It’s a great throwback to the ones we used to see at state fairs. The 45 minute subway ride is a nice rest for tired feet, and most is above ground, so you see interesting things on the way.

Glechik has been shut down for over a year. Replaced by a crummy Uzbek cafe, which will be shut down in less than a year.

I've been to Coney Island. There's a lot to do there. Great for the family.
