Condos West Coast Maui
Hi
My husband and my father-in-law (both big basketball fans) have just decided that we're spending next Thanksgiving in Maui, so they can attend the Maui Invitational which is held at the Lahaina Civic Center. We will be there for a week, four adults, and are looking for a comfortable (2 bedroom) condo on the West coast, not far from Lahaina. I'm in charge of research, but since my in-laws are paying, I don't want to break the bank either. Can we find something decent for about $250 per night. Thanks!

We love West Maui and have stayed in many condos there. I definitely think you can get something for $250. We have stayed at Kaanapali Royal, Papakea, Kaanapali Shores, Kahana Sunset, The Ridge at Kapalua and the Golf Villas at Kapalua. I would recommend any of them, but at this time my favorite is Kaanapali Royal. The 2 bdrooms at the Ridge are wonderful for two couples, because the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the common areas. They are huge -- larger than my home. I could go on for 3 days on this subject, but if you want to e-mail me direct I would share more information.
Hi Nelly,

We just returned from Maui on Dec. 1st,2000. We stayed at the Papakea Resort condos ran by Aston hotels& condos. <www.astonhotels.com> We paid $125 a night for a 1 bedroom condo with a pull-out queen bed, full kitchen, washer/dryer,etc. Their were four of us, my wife and I, and another couple. We slept on the pull-out couch which wasn't very comfortable. If we had to do it again I would have opted for the 2 bedroom. There are 2 pools and 2 jacuzzi's, the staff was friendly and the grounds were nicely kept. It was comfortable and close to Lahaina. I would stay there again and would consider it decent. If you call them directly, ask for a AAA rate,if you have the membership. You'll get a better price than over the internet. feel free to email me if you'd like more info.

Thanks Lori and John. I'm going to have fun looking into all of your recommendations!

We've stayed at The Mahana many times and it's great, all condo's are ocean front with spectacular views. They have studios, 1 and 2 bedroom's all with full kitchens, washer/dryers, daily maid service, etc. Also have stayed at the Kaanapoli Shores - it was nice enough but you have to pay bigger bucks for ocean front there. Some years back stayed at the Kaanapoli Villas, they have a very nice beach. The grounds at the Papakea are nice, we walked around them when were were staying at the Kaanapoli Shores.
Good luck with the planning

Can someone tell me what the Kaanapali Villas & Papakea Resort are close to so I can find them on the map. I stayed at the Aston Kaanapali Shores and it was fine although not the greatest beach. These both sound like they have nicer beaches. What kind of rate could I get for a two bedroom???

Papakea is just to the right of Kaanapoli Shores. Villas is quite a bit further south - where the beach widens out, next to the public park (which has a great beach) if I remember correctly. Of the two Villas has MUCH better beach. The beach at Papakea is just like that at Kaanapoli Shores - not very good, narrow and a bit rocky in places.

Look into the Maui Eldorado. We stayed there this summer. The Outrigger people run the condos and have spiffed up the rooms. If you like golf it’s right there. Beach is accessible by golf cart and there’s a beach cabana to hang out in when the sun gets too hot. Near all the Kaanapali shopping/dining and not far (10 mins.) from the civic center where the games are. Very relaxing and convenient.
