condo rental, lake tahoe, incline village

hello all!
I've been researching condo complexes for a stay in august in Incline Village and wondered if anyone in this forum had any first hand experience here. I want to be within a block or so of the beach and the Hyatt and would like to keep the price at $200 or under for a 2 bedroom. Can anybody here recommend one condo complex over another within this criteria.
Thanks for your help as always!

Incline Village is the jewel of North Lake Tahoe and expensive. I doubt you will find a two bedroom condo for that price range in the summer. We reserve ours at the Hyatt High Sierra, a year in advance for July. If you have found anything in that area on the web, you should book it, as it is a perfect location.

Hello MBnancy,
I have found quite a few condos for under $200 p/ night. I'm sure they are not the quality of Hyatt High Sierra but still very decent. If you are familar with any specific condo complexes, such as mccloud or other I would love some input over those. Incline Village is beautiful for sure. My daughter is starting college in the village in august so hopefully I can visit often. If you have any recommendations for dinner or activities I would also be interested in that knowledge also.
Thanks for your help!

The area around the Hyatt is very nice, and I haven't seen any old condos. There are some nice new ones, but I don't know the names. Go ahead and book in that location. They call Lakeshore Drive, Millionaire's Row, as all the homes lining the lake and across from it are fabulous.

Lots of dining in the area. The Hyatt's Lone Eagle Grill at the Lake is one of our favorites. Cocktails in the Great Room, then dinner by the giant rock fireplace as the sun goes down over the lake. They have an outdoor firepit, as well.

Across from the Hyatt, on Country Club Drive, is a small center with several restaurants. We like La Fondue, Austins, etc. There is a good Mexican place in the Raley's Center on Tahoe Blvd.

We'll be there two weeks from today, I can hardly wait. Let me know what condo you book, and I can look for it and let you know.

Thanks for your help Nancy!!
I haven't booked anything yet, but when I do I will let you know. That would be a great help!
I wish I was able to go longer, oh well.

I'll be taking the laptop with me on July 2nd, so let me know if you want me to drive by any of the condos that week, if you've chosen one by then.

Hello Nancy, I hope you get this in time. I am looking at 2 units and would like to make a decision before this Tuesday the 5th. I am looking at 39 Forest Pines and 40 Coeur Du Lac. If you are in the vicinity and see either of these it would be a great help to me.
I hope you have a great vacation in tahoe. Two weeks, how nice!!!
Thanks for your help and certainly don't go out of your way.
Fodors people are wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Milkeway, Sorry I didn't see this post of yours until today. I was looking for a new title from you after the 4th, to tell me which condos were in the running.

I saw your post to someone suggesting Incline Village today, and clicked on your screen name to see if I missed a post.

I've not heard of those two streets, are they near the Hyatt? Or up in the hills? Which one did you decide on?

I see the college your daughter is going to attend, just up the street from the Hyatt. Do they have dorms, and is the Incline campus new this year?

We stayed in Forest Pines in '96. I pulled out my map of the grounds. 2-39 would have a great location down by Lakeshore Dr. 1-39 is at the back of the property.
We stayed in a 2br/2ba condo. There was no view of the lake from the condo. The unit we rented was a narrow townhouse unit. On the first floor, it had a small screened room, living room w/fireplace,kitchen and then one bedroom and bath at the back of the unit. The entire upstairs was a master bedroom suite.
They are all individually owned.
I thoroughly enjoyed walking the lake pathway ever morning. It was quite close to the Hyatt. You also get a pass to the Incline Village private beach and swimming pools. There is another pool in the condo complex.
We loved going to Sand Harbor, which is a short drive-our kids enjoyed jumping off the boulders into the freezing!!!!water.
I think Couer do Lac was in the same area---can't remember. There were some lakefront condos. I have Lakeshore Terrace and McCloud written in my notes--I must have liked those.
Would love to return---it's a beautiful place---be sure to ride bikes around the lake.
A great guidebook---The Complete Guide Tahoe by Ken Castle. Great hiking suggestions--we loved the hike around the lake--The Rubicon Trail is beautiful.

To MBnancy:
Thanks for looking out for my posts, I appreciate it. Hope you are having a great vaca too. I think I am opting for the Forest Pines Condo, unit 39, which is the condo complex on Juanita, which runs from Village Boulevard to lakeshore Boulevard. Run on sentence, whew, sorry. As for the college, they do have dorms and no the incline campus is not new this year. It has been there since 1995 I believe. It is a very small school though, about 650 enrolled which suits her perfectly. I hope you are enjoying your vacation and the weather is good. If you can suggest any great places/things to see or restaurants (oops, you already gave me restaurant suggestions) I'll take that info also. Thank you very much. I really appreciate your help.
To LindainOhio.
Thank you for the suggestion of the guidebook. I will be sure to pick that up as I love to hike. I looked at Lakeshore and McCloud. Lakeshore is quite a bit more money and McCloud looks nicer than Forest Pines, but does not have a pool on site. My daughter loves to swim (in warm water) so a pool is a must and I was afraid the town pool would have limited hours it was open.
Thanks to all and keep the advise coming. I always get great help from fellow fodorites!

We drove by Forest Pines this afternoon, it is about a mile from the Hyatt in a very nice setting, and just up the street from Lakeshore Dr. We turned into the driveway and I took a photo of 2-39 for you (if that's the one you rented) Good choice. We have been using the pool here at the Hyatt more than the lake this trip. I don't want to post my email address but if you have a business or other email you would like me to send it too, I would be happy to.

I guess the college has been at the same corner, but we never really noticed it before. This year they are making curbs/bikepath at that corner, and they have a couple of canvas banners advertizing the college, too.
Is this your daughter's first year there?

You are too kind!!! Yes, 2-39 is the one. I will give you my "secondary" e-mail address. It is [email protected]. Yes, this will be her first year at the school. She is big into competitive snowboarding and fine art and has a learning style that requires small classrooms so this school fit the bill. It's pretty isn't it? Have you seen any bike shops around? She wants to buy a bike to "tool" around with even though she will have her car there.
I would love to stay at the Hyatt but her boyfriend is coming with us to drop her off and I just don't feel comfortable staying in a hotel room with him alone (she will be staying at the school after the first night we'll be there).
How's the weather? Is it warm?
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!

MBnancy Jul 9th, 2005 08:19 AM

Weather is perfect, been in low 80s. I will dig out photo stuff and send later tonight.
There are bike shops around...
Adios for now.
