conch train tour

We will be staying in Islamorada in June and traveling around to different places. We plan to visit Key West for a day.
Do any of you recommend the conch train tour if we are only spending one day in Key West?

Yes, I would definitely recommend it, especially if you are there only one day. It is a good introduction to the island.
My husband enjoyed it so much in January he wants to ride it again on our next trip in January 2005.

Normally I'd agree that the Conch Train Tour is a good idea, but in this case I'm not so sure. The trip down from Islamorada will take 2 hours, so you'll be facing at least 4 hours in the car. To add another hour and a half on the tour seems like a little too much riding to me.

But someone else is doing the driving!!! I guess it really depends on whether or not you'll be feeling like doing more sitting. It's informative and takes you all around the island.

Go for it!!! They tell you about all of the historical sites in Key West. No other way to experience so much of the island.

My son and I did the Conch train ride last spring and it was great. They gave lots of interesting information about the island and explained a lot of the history. I've been to KW several times, but hearing about it's history was an eyeopener.

If you have kids, it's also pretty kid friendly.

We go to the Keys alot and everytime we have someone with us that has never been, we go on the Conch Train tour. It is an enjoyable tour and you get some good info out of it!
Get up early - drive to Key West and take an mid morning tour on the Conch Train. You'll still have time to go back and see any sights you saw on the tour that interested you. Plus you'll want to walk Duval Street - have lunch and if you're up to it - stay in Key West until the evening. It has a total different look at night.

Why is it that no one ever explains just what the "Conch Train" is? I have read countless praises of this tour but no one ever explains what the tour is about.

How are the rest of us who have never experienced this tour supposed to determine if we would enjoy it if we don't know what it is? Is it a train? Is it a Conch? Is it Superman? Where does it go? ect? ect? etc?
