Commanders Palace?
 

I've been to Nawlin's a few times but have never eaten at Commanders. I would like to know if it is formal or casual attire and what some people's recent experiences have been like? I'd also like some other possible recommendations (I've eaten at K-Pauls & Nola). As always, your opinions are apreciated!

At night, coats (but not ties) are required at Commander's Palace. At lunch, though coats aren't required many men wear them. Nice pants are fine for women at either meal. Mr. B's and the Palace Cafe are both great. If you eat at Mr. B's, try the gumbo yaya...it's wonderful!

I went to CP back in January for their Jazz Brunch. I wore a black peasant blouse & nice slacks, and my bf wore wool pants and a turtleneck sweater. Turned out we were more dressed up than the average person there. I don't think there is any dress code for brunch. By the way, the food is fantastic...especially the egg dishes and the bread pudding! Service was excellent also.

It's been at least five years since I went to New Orleans, but of all of the places I've ever been, it is undoubtedly the best food town ever! All of our dining experiences were superb! We did Jazz Brunch at Commanders and loved it. No shorts allowed. Nola was fun, and the Court of Two Sisters was outstanding. Brennan's--delicious. I gotta get back to that town!

You will probably get some differing opinions on the Court of the Two Sisters. I can recommend it for a very plain drink only. Horrendous meal last May with some very indifferent wines on the list. I, on the other hand, had another in a series of outstanding simple NO French dinners at Galatoires. The consistency there has been amazing for over 30 years (in my experience). I also like Mr. B's. Muriel's was fun for lunch and an interesting place.<BR><BR>We always do the jazz brunch at Commanders and walk it off through the Garden District. Another restaurant legend that is consistently good.

Commanders continues to decline &amp; rest on its laurels as several other NO eateries. Too me it is over-priced &amp; pretentious. Depending on what you are looking for, I like Bella Luna for the view/romance, Dickie Brennans for steak, The Grill Room for lunch (also a little stuffy), Acme for oysters, Dominiques or Cuvee for more French &amp; Irene's for an Italian twist. Please also look on Fodor's for additional comments that may be helpful. 2 Sisters continues to go downhill especially since they lost their head bartender (Miss May, I think) a couple of years ago. It used to be a staple of our visits &amp; we no longer go there. Same w/Tony Moran's, Frenchy (Maitre d') left 2 years ago &amp; they haven't been able to sufficiently replace him.

We took our 2 small children there on a weekday. We had a great experience: top service and excellent food. The kids will never forget the making of our Bananas Foster tableside! It's fairly dressy. For lunch I would say the level of business attire.

I would agree that &quot;business attire&quot; is most appropriate for lunch. They won't turn away a man without a jacket, but most men wear them there. I prefer CP for lunch rather than dinner.. much more reasonably priced. Just had a b-day lunch there last week... 25 cent Cosmopolitans!! Thank goodness I didn't have to go back to work! Lunch (3 courses) and drinks, with tax and tip was about $38, and we had the most expensive meal on the lunch menu. You can do it for about $25-$30. While I have enjoyed dining at Commander's in the past, you should be aware that head chef Jamie died about a year ago and the food has been receiving poor reviews ever since. <BR><BR>You should also consider Bella Luna for an evening meal--very romantic setting overlooking the river. <BR><BR>Brennan's for breakfast. Yum, I love their milk punch!<BR><BR>Uglesich's for lunch. Great seafood in a little hole in the wall. <BR><BR>Mother's for anything. <BR><BR>The Bon Ton for lunch.

My husband and I ate at Commander's about three years ago for dinner. He wore khaki pants, a navy blazer, and a tie. I wore a dress and heels. I felt like we were appropriately and similarly dressed compared to the other patrons. We've been to New Orleans several times, and Commander's is by far our favorite restaurant. We also enjoyed a brunch at the Court of Two Sisters, though I know it often gets mixed reviews. Apparently the locals consider it as purely a restaurant for the tourists. I don't think I would want to go there for dinner, but for brunch it was fine.
