Commander's Palace - What to Wear
I will be going to New Orleans at the end of October and am planning to do the Jazz Brunch at Commander's Palace. Looking through past threads there is a pretty wide array of what people say is appropriate dress. Does anyone have the lowdown? I don't want to look too touristy.

For men, a jacket is always appropriate at Commander's. Lunch/brunch only "requires" business casual but most people dress a bit more at the Sunday jazz brunch. My girlfriend always dresses up when we go to CP, regardless of day/night.

I loooove that place.
It's usually still quite warm in NO at the end of October, so here are my suggestions.
For women - silk or linen dress/shift with closed toe low heeled shoes.
For men - at the very least a dress shirt and khakis, but a better choice would be a sport coat, dress shirt, dark dress pants and tasseled loafers.
The WRONG thing to wear? T-shirts, rumpled shorts, tennies and fanny packs.

I've been going to Commander's Palace for decades and I agree that coats are appropriate for men even though they're not required at lunch or brunch. I don't wear dresses or skirts anymore unless I'm going to a funeral or something formal, but I'm always comfortable in nice pants outfits. As long as you're not too dressy (too much skin showing or too glittery) or too casual (make that sloppy, as the above post mentions) you'll be fine.

I was a little worried about my husband in a suit (we were planning on taking a tour of the Garden District after lunch). I do think I can talk him into a sport coat, he has no tasseled loafers but I do think I can dig up some appropriate shoes. Thank you for all of your help!

We just had brunch at Commanders this past Sunday and none of the men at our table wore a jacket, and there were others dressed the same. I believe their only requirement was no shorts and only shirts with collars. I would give your husband a break and let him not bring a jacket.
