coming to Philly to see the Vikings

We will be coming to Philadelphia this weekend for the football game. Is the Marriott hotel close to everything in the center of the city or would another hotel be better?
Go Vikings!!

Andrew Jan 11th, 2005 05:34 PM

You may want to make sure the hotel has a well-stocked bar to drown your sorrows after the Eagles kick the Vikings' ass...

Go Eagles!! :-)

Andrew

The Marriott is as well located as any other center city hotel, right next to the convention center, about eight blocks from Independence Hall, an easy bus ride to the Art Museum, and only a couple blocks to the orange line subway; which goes direct to "The Linc."

After you watch the Vikings lose, you can return to South Street, drown your sorrows, and listen to 5017 renditions of "Fly, Eagle, Fly."

Hey Eagles fans, get ready to be mooned!

Budman Jan 12th, 2005 05:21 AM

Watch out for Eagle fans. If you taunt them, they'll kick your ass. They actually have a Judge at Eagle home games to commit rowdy fans.

I'm a Redskins fan, and I would never consider wearing any Skins memorabilia at a Phila game. ((b))

The "orange street line" is actually called the Broad Street line if you're planning on taking the subway to the game. You would get off at the last stop which is Pattison.

You do realize it was Eagles fans who booed Santa Claus, right? A few stellar moments in the history of the Eagles fan:

December 1989 - Fans throw snowballs Cowboys bench after 20-10 win.

November 1997 - Flare gun fired across upper decks.

December 1997 - Courtroom set-up at Stadium after said flare gun incident.

Lest you think Eagles fans are getting a bad rap because of a few uneducated, punks - it's been widely reported that an active participant in the 1989 snowball incident was the former mayor of Philadelphia, current Governor of Pennsylvannia Ed Rendell.

Enjoy the game!

Ryan,
A lot has changed in Phila. in the past nine years or so. You had to dig back quite a ways to dig up those stats. If you don't like Philly fans, STAY HOME!

alexg Jan 12th, 2005 04:49 PM

STAY HOME, unless you want your a-- to get kicked.
GO EAGLES!!!!

Ryan Jan 12th, 2005 05:04 PM

schmerl,
Clearly you've never read True Believers by Joe Queenan.

Vikings Fan: I think you should consider staying at the Days Inn in Chester, PA. Centrally located, nice amenities, etc.

nyudad- assuming you have never been at a home Eagles game, please take these posts seriously and do not wear opposing teams garb unless you like to be exposed to a constant string of profanity directed to you and to all your ancestors back several generations, like dodging a hail of half eaten hot dogs and beer cups for 3 hours, like being threatened with physical harm, and like risking ACTUAL physical harm. This is not like going to Green Bay or Dallas where if you wear the other teams jersey you are subject to polite, good natured ribbing. This is PHILLY. Go, fly under the radar screen, and enjoy the game, whoever wins.

Well, who won?

Michael - that's too funny.

Ryan - I've read True Believers and I've lived in Phila. too long to get too excited. We haven't had a team win in over 20 years. What's worse is that my husband's company is headquartered in BOSTON. I gave his boss the True Believers book last year, and I just recently asked for it back. He just cannot relate. Sigh.

nyudad, I hope you did not wear anything with Vikings logo on it. Local radio station reported riot like conditions in the stands and some Vikings fans got what they deserve.

It's a real disgrace to the city and the reputation for this kind of thing is well-known.

brookwood Jan 17th, 2005 06:10 PM

Just remember that Philadelphia is where the fans throw firecrackers at Santa Claus and chase him to cover.

Larry1 Jan 18th, 2005 07:29 AM

It is not just Philly- try wearing other teams garb at a Patriot's, Jet's, or Bear's home game, just to name a few. By the way, all the places that have problems with fan violence are also known as great sports towns. An inevitable (but unfortunate) consequence of fan passion is unruly behavior.

Which team is it whose fans moon the departing teams? Minnesota? Green Bay?

I remember that it was a team from a cold locale because I remember thinking, man you'd have to be really drunk to pull your drawers down in that weather!
