Columbus Ohio, any new good places to eat..

On our way to Columbus for a long weekend. So looking forward to a relief from the Florida heat and humidity, and of course will be seeing our Buckeyes play Saturday.

We always eat at Schmidts, and our hostess is a great cook, but we enjoy taking them out to eat as well. Will be staying in Clintonville, but anywhere is OK. We like Italian, one does NOT like seafood, everybody likes French. Any recommendations, especially brunch would be appreciated.

North Star is excellent for breakfast/brunch. I am serious when I say I want to go back just to eat here. We got the recommendation from a Columbus native. It is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.

Marcellas on High Street in the short north is an excellent Italian destination. Not sure about their reservation policy. If you go Sunday night, bottle wine is 25% off.

J. Liu's on High Street in Worthington has an unusual menu of Asian, Italian, and basic American in a nice setting. The food is good. I know they take rez.

Tratoria Roma in Grandview is reliable Italian. Nearby and less formal with pasta and pizza menu is Figlios. Both take rez.

Spagios a block away has a European flair and food quality is very good.

Closest respectable French to Columbus is on the east side between the Hudson and the East River.

Thanks for the info, will let you know what we chose. And LOL about the French recommendation.

Actually the only French place I can think of in Columbus is http://www.lantibes.com/ & it has been there for quite some time. When the Maisonette was around in Cincinnati, it was one of the best French restaurants in the country, bar none. In German Village I like www.thethurmancafe.com & theoldmohawk.com just as well as Schmidt's. Also www.katzingers.com is great for deli stuff, but be hungry, very hungry.

Brunch suggestions - Banana Bean Cafe, Lindey's, North Star, First Watch (OK chain resto)
Dinner suggestions - Mac's Scottish bar in Short North ($), Lindey's, Barcelona or G. Michael's in German Village (all $$$) The Top Steakhouse (old school steak - $$$)Flatiron near Convention Center ($, Worthington Inn ($$$), The Refectory in UA ($$$) - pretty good French actually!
Ice Cream (you gotta try at least one!) Jeni's, Graeter's, Johnson's
Every major chain restaurant known to mankind (not my cup of tea!)

Thanks to Gina and Stumpworks. We had a great weekend in Columbus (rain and all). Had brunch at NorthStar Cafe. One had eggs and sausage, great tasting sausage. One had veggie burger which tasted better than I expected. I had the big egg burito, made with roasted sweet potatoes, red onions and peppers. IT was outstanding. The orange juice was unbelievably fresh tasting. Didn't wait at all at 12noon on Saturday. We were at the Clintonville location, not Short North. Highly recommend for brunch.

Dinner one night at J. Liu's in Worthington. It was wonderful. We had "Columbus best pad thai" with a bit of spice, we loved it. I had pork chop with Hunan glaze; perfectly cooked with a nice spice to it. DH had a special: rainbow trout with crab stuffing and it was very very tasty. Service was friendly but lacking in attentiveness, i.e. no bread, asked for water refills. And the house wine pours seemed scanty to me. But the food was excellent.
