Columbus food !
 

I will be staying at the Hyatt on High Street. I am looking for good food value places within walking distance of the Hyatt. I like fish and healthy food options and I will be eating alone for some meals. I see lots of places and seek recommendations for good places. Thanks.

I saw this episode of Michael Ruhlman and was REALLY interested since I'm originally from Ohio. He could not have been more complimentary!!

Hmm. There should be a Todd Blackledge piece on college eats because he does a short featurette at every college town he visits. Dunno if it would be heart healthy . . .

I'm sorry I don t know where the Hyatt is, but in many years of traveling to Columbus, I always enjoyed Rigsby's on High and Tapatio near the Market.

There were high end Asian restaurants in the city as well, but I can't remember their names.

Columbus has the reputation of being the fattest city in the US, so be careful!

Thanks to all. The Hyatt Regency is on North High St just north of downtown.The Short North seems to have lots of places. Are there good food places where you can eat at the bar, if alone.

Yes-there are many restaurants near the hotel. Most of them have bars where you can have dinner with no problem. If you don't mind a little bit of a walk, Haiku has excellent sushi and Asian food. Sushi Rock and One Fish are closer to the hotel. Martini's and Marcello's have decent food, too, although I've never tried seafood at either place. You are also within walking distance of North Market if you are looking for interesting snacks during the day.

Columbus has tons of good restaurants and the Hyatt is in a VERY good location to enjoy a lot of them. Will you have a csr?

Just across the street is the flat iron-looking building called The Flatiron Restaurant that specializes in Creole/New Orleans style fare. Their BBQ brisket sandwich is very good. There is a food court within the convention center attached to the Hyatt. The only place I like there is the Chinese one.

A 5 minute walk north on High St. and one block over is the North Market. While not as extensive as Cleveland's Westside Market, there are a lot of food stalls with lots of goodies. My favs are the chocolate place, the cheese stall, the guy who sells chicken. Others like the Thai and oriental foods as well. This is your venue for Jeni's Ice Cream, which is a must if you like ice cream. The standard is the salty caramel, but they have very unusual flavors. A bit pricy, but worth it.

There is a diner called Knead on the west side of High St. across from the convention center. A bit pricy, but the food is good. You should also try North Star, a mile or so up High St. for some locavore food. Mac's, also on High in the Short North, is Scottish bar with the best hamburgers. You can sit at the bar. Betty's is also on High St.

If you are into hot dogs, Dirty Frank's is a 20 min walk on Fourth St. closer to German Village. In German Village there is the original Max & Erma's, also a bar. The Village bookstore is a fun place where you can get coffee and read books. Pistachio Vera is open for breakfast and snacks, a very pricy but delicious bakery. Fine dining restaurants in German Village would be Lindey's, G. Michael and Barcelona. You might have seen Skillet, also a locavore restaurant on several TV shows. They are open for breakfast and lunch.

I do not have a car and I plan to walk. I hear I can take the #2 bus up and down High Street to Ohio State. Are there some good foodie places in the campus area.
Does Columbus have local food review sites by food patrons. Perhaps an alternative newspaper.

Pearl is a new raw bar and seafood tavern just north. Marcella's is an Italian tapas format with a very pleasant open cafe set up. I second the North Market. Lots of local and variety. Rigs by is the upscale option. Very reliable.
