Colter vs signal mt lodge cabins

I am deciding to change my 230.00 a a night lakefront retreat to one of the cabins, to save a little money.

Has anyone stayed at both of these and have a suggestion between Colter vs. signal mt. lodge cabins.

I haven't tried Colter for the simple reason that we stayed at Signal Mountain Lodge on our first trip and fell in love with it. The cabins are spartan but comfortable. The view is spectacular. The area does not attract the huge crowds you find elsewhere in the park. Hiking is right out the door. Great place.

Interesting how time changes one's perspective...

My first thought to your question was that Signal Mt would be better. Even the cabins have a decent view, and it was less crowded.

However, when I looked back at my notes from our 2004 trip, I had these notes.

Coulter Bay (stayed there first) Large, very clean room with vinyl floor, thin bathroom walls. Rated it as A as a cabin.

Signal Mt (cabin 130, the one with the slanted floor) After second night, "seemed a bit better today." Rated B- as lodge. Perhaps I was expecting a bit more from something billed as a lodge.

Think I'd still go for the view at Signal Mt.
