Colors - 2nd week in Oct?

We have booked a timeshare the second week of October in Bartlett, NH. Is this the best time?

Are there antique shops in the vicinity? Any enertainment going on tht time of year?

I would appreciate any lis relevant to the area.

And, how long would it take to drive to Montreal?

Thank you to anyone who can help.

That time sounds right- but there's no way of knowing for sure until the leaves start to turn in Canada - since it depend so much on the summer's weather.

It would take at least 4 hours to Montreal based on computer mapping. But if you try to go on a weekend when the roads are crowded with leaf-peepers that can slow things down.

Second week of Oct is the peak season, however, fall may be early or late than usual.

Last year, in 2nd week of Oct, VT was pretty colorful, but NH had colors only in the northern region - white mountain region was pretty green.

But the foliage season was extremely late last year, at least two weeks behind average. You just never know. That location and date is a good average -- you'll be within an hour of peak foliage someplace. The peak tends to hit the northwestern corner of the region first (northern VT) and work towards the southeast with the latest being around Boston and RI.

The popular area for antiques is about 2 hours south in the Northwood NH area. That area of Rt 4 is called Antique Alley. You could make a nice day trip of it. You will also find several shops on the route around Lake Winnipesaukee. Events are listed in the Thursday and Sunday editions of the Concord Monitor and Manchester Union Leader. You can check their on-line listings. Yankee Magazine also lists events at www.newengland.com although this list isn't as extensive. If you are arriving on Sat Oct 7 or Sun Oct 8, both the Sandwich Fair (small) and Fryeburg ME fair are going on and will have entertainment. Also check the grand hotels. We went to a good comedy show at the Mountain Grand View hotel in Whitefield.
