Colorado Winter Wedding Venue
Hi everyone!
I'm a Texan who plans to get married in Colorado. I'm visiting in July to look at a few venues and I just want to make sure I check out all the great places I can while I'm in town! We will have a smallish wedding of about 75 people who will all need accommodations. I prefer something with a fireplace and a dance floor! My top venues at the moment are Devil's Thumb, Saddle Ridge, and a few others in surrounding areas. There will be a few children so I've eliminated those venues like Della Terra that prefer no children. If anyone has any ideas of a place where you can bring in your own alcohol and a hired bartender I know I could save some serious $$. Keeping my options very open at the moment so any suggestions are much appreciated! Thank you:)!! |
Check with the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs.

I did see someone swimming in that pool in December 2013. The Amtrak station is on the south side of the river if someone wanted to arrive by train. |

Durango is a great little town with lots to see and do. An easy drive from Albuquerque airport.

Funny you ask this today. DD was married last Saturday at Devil's Thumb Ranch. We have a long history of visiting DTR, since the 70s, when it was the simplest Nordic ski area.
It is outstanding. Not a hitch. Extremely professional on-the-floor service. They choreograph the wait staff through the maze of tables, like a dance. We were in the Broadaxe Barn. 134 guests. It was fantastic. We have eaten there many, many times in their fine dining restaurant, The Ranch House. Their food never fails. It's well-presented and cooked perfectly. We did hear some complaints that the reservations department mixed up a few times, on the phone and e-mail with some guests. Nothing serious, but annoying to the bride & groom. Also, the wedding sales staff turns over, so you may have more than one rep helping you. Also annoying to the bride and groom. BUT, the lodging and location are outstanding. Our guests, many of them serious cattle ranchers, had great respect for the way DTR operates as a working ranch, raising Wagyu beef. And it's doing everything with a minimal carbon footprint. Using thermal heat. Going off-the-grid. Respecting the land and its animals. For all of this, you will pay top dollar. But you will definitely get your money's worth. The DTR banquet manager is amazing. He exceeds expectations. Goes above and beyond. Great guy, with enthusiasm for your party. Lodging there is fantastic, Ralph Lauren type decor with authentic bits of Western history everywhere. Choice of high-end cabins, Lodge rooms, High Lonesome rooms, or a nice 'bunkhouse' with some private and some shared baths. Our wedding weekend was flawless. Ask more details, if you want names of people there to contact, or a wedding planner I highly recommend. DTR requires you hire a planner, which is a good thing. SO many details. |
What dates are you looking at? Winter spans a range of time. Once you get into ski season so areas can become more expensive. There can also be weather issues.

I'm wondering the same as fmpden about ski season and block capability for hotels, etc. And cost escalation.

Devil's Thumb is Nordic skiing. It doesn't get crazy crowded.
Winter is off-season for weddings at DTR. June starts the season, and prices jump up significantly. We have been to two weddings at Devils Thumb Ranch and both were wonderful. One was in the winter and the other in the summer and both were really fun and lovely.
