Colorado-where for a week in Oct.?

if we could rent a cabin/small home in one beautiful spot in Colorado for close to a week and plant ourselves, relax and take day-trips or hikes--where would it be?

Wow that's a tough one! A lot of gorgeous places. I've enjoyed Telluride in October (early in the month). Durango is close to Mesa Verde and also pretty that time of year.

A week in Telluride can be long; it is nice but very limited. Durango would be a much better choice. Problem is flights to Durango are expensive; you would be best to fly into Albuquerque [ABQ]on Southwest if you live near an airport that they fly out of and drive the 3 hours to Durango.

How about Aspen? 41 miles SSE of Glenwood Springs. Have you shopped on VRBO for prices/dates available?

You need to be a little careful with the weather at that time of year. Do not want to be trapped by an early snow fall. And snow in October is frequent and often times some of the ski resorts will open around second to third week of October.
