Colorado Springs Local Eats

I'm going to Colorado Springs for a convention in June with husband & 8 yr old. We're looking for local, not chain restaruants while we are there. We want a nice dinner out, steaks, lamb chops, as well as deli type places for lunch. We will be driving all over town so location is not really important.

Here are three websites

http://www.opentable.com/--there is a small listing of Colorado Springs restaurants
the Craftwood Inn in Manitou Springs has fabulous food

The Famous and the Peppertree are known for steaks

Great place for lunch is the restaurant in the old Missouri Pacific/Colorado & Southern Train Station just off the interstate and outside of downtown. Sorry the name is escaping me at the moment - maybe some locals can help. Great setting and some history thrown in. May be good for dinner too, but we only had lunch there.

Marigold Bakery on Centennial Blvd - informal cafe style lunches, more upscale dinners. Food is wonderful - be sure to try the double chocolate cake. Delicious.

Phantom Canyon is a great brew pub located downtown. Really good beer and excellent food, set in a historic old building. Family friendly, too.

Amanda's Fonda is local and probably the best Mexican food in town. Short review can be found at the following link. http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/gui...=1154654643836

Thanks for the help! We did go to Giuseppe's Old Depot Restaurant and enjoyed it alot. Nice atmosphere and good food. The wait staff was attentive and quickly fixed a problem we had with one of our fish dishes not being blackened as ordered. We were supprised when a train actually passed right by our window, knew it was an old train depot, but didn't realize the train still ran that track. We had friends show up for the trip with two small children so the majority of our other meals was just quick food and chain restaruants. Maybe next time!

The local paper, The Gazette, has an annual 'Best of' that's online. Can get some good ideas: http://www.thebestofthesprings.com/
