Is the CS airport 60 miles plus from downtown area? Are shuttles available? Don't want to rent a car.

Not from Colorado Springs. Where do you want to be--Denver or CO Springs. Very cryptic.
What are your needs/plans?

DIA - Denver International Airport is about 60 miles away from CS.

Or trying to escape CO Springs? By air?

There was a sucker play in the CS airport about twenty years ago. When the discount airlines began it have a major play, they started using the CS airport because the operational costs were cheaper. And for awhile people from Denver actually drove to the CS airport to take advantage of the cheaper fares. The city fathers dumped a ton of money into expanding the airport facilities and then the airlines shifted to Denver. Now there is an absolutely lovely, under utilized airport in CS paid for with a lot of transportation tax dollars.
