Colorado Snow Trip

Living in Florida for the past 15 years, I don't think I can go another year without snow. So we (my boyfirend and I - 40 and 50) are looking to take a snowy vacation. We do not ski, but would like an area with winter activities such as ice skating, snowmobiling, snowtubing, sleighrides, and also a nice town with shops/restaurants.

Our timing is flexible- any 5 days between December and April. I have been looking at the ski resorts of Colorado, but honestly, all the information is overwhelming. Being a non-skier, I am not sure I actually want/need to stay right in a ski resort.

Any suggestions?

Breckenridge should suit your needs

Durango is a great place for activities and has great restaurants and hotels at at a more moderate price than the high end ski towns.

Telluride is also nice, but prices are higher.

I agree with the recommendation of Breckenridge.

Vail, Aspen, and Steamboat Springs would also meet your needs.

Check into air arrangements to see where you could fly non-stop and what the fares are. Tht could helpnarrow down your choices.

I'd suggest going in January or February, but not around MLK Day or President's weekend. The rates and the crowds will be smaller.

Then think about whether you want to stay in a hotel, a B&B, or a condo.

breckenridge is great. free buses everywhere once there. also, we like frisco as it is the main bus changing station area and in the middle of things but not as quaint or extensive as breck.

we took a fabulous snowmobile tour from the main street in frisco.

slegh ride with dinner at breck and there is an old gold mine you can visit.

the recreation center at breck is an excellent way of getting some good swimming or wall climbing in.

lots of good restaurants in the valley, and several resorts to visit.

go to keystone and make reservation for lunch atop the mountain, taking the lift up and feel like a skiier. it is gorgoeus.
