Colorado Snow in April
We will be in Denver visiting family and want to take our boys skiing around Easter. They don't have a lot of experience so we would like an area with good green and blue trails. We would like to be fairly close to Denver and would like to stay slopeside in upscale accomodations. We've been to Beaver Creek and Vail, but I wonder about snow in mid-April. Any suggestions on places that should have snow that time of year? Thanks so much.

Arapahoe Basin usually has some of the last snow left. You won't find any upscale slopeside accomodations at A-Basin (such as the Ritz or Hyatt at Beaver Creek) but there are plenty of accomodations in the area.

I agree, A-basin is the best bet for good snow, although some areas might be open if the spring snowstorms were good. Either way, you could stay in Keystone, and have a short drive to A-basin, or luck out and have Keystone still be open.

Closing dates for 2006 season:
A-Basin - Mid June Beaver Creek - April 16 Breckenridge - April 23 Copper Mountain - April 16 Keystone - April 16 Vail - April 23 Winter Park - April 16 I would double check with the resorts on the dates and watch how the spring storms play out. So far this year the skiing conditions have been great. |
I've skied the last weekend of the season in Colorado before and the snow was GREAT. Do know that it will be warmer than you will probably expect (kids that work there take breaks in swimsuits on the snow to work on their tan). BE SURE to pile on LOTS of sunscreen. Have fun!

as it seems you will be in colo while every place is still open i am suggesting keystone. fun town for kids with lots to do besides skiing.
you might want to take shorts. def bring sunscreen and very good sunglasses. it will probably be quite warm during the day and very bright! |
