funonsmoker, yes you’re right it is legal, BUT it is illegal to toss your butts out the window, litter, and smoke in National Forest. <BR><BR>Question why are all the smokers angry with this? I would think that as a smoker you would condemn this type of behavior as it makes it harder on all smokers, even the considerate ones.<BR><BR>Not one smoker has said that this type of actions is bad, that they would never throw out their butts. That they always pick them up off the ground after crushing them out and then disposes of them in a safe container. Why? Do you think its ok to leave your butts where they fall? Really I am curious.<BR><BR>

Thank goodness for such a law! I think every state should have it. Although I have no problem being around 2nd hand smoke, it is such a huge fire hazzard and so unsightly on the streets. I wish all smokers would just use their ash trays inside their cars. Every year the fires are terrible in all of the West and it just litters the street besides! Smokers, please use your ashtrays or I'll report you! Tina

cokiser, There are smokers out there who abhour the butts others feel inclined to throw and leave everywhere. I, for one, will put an extinguished butt in my pocket if I can not find anyplace else to dispose of it properly. <BR>I think the truth is that I am in a minority here but some of us actually try really hard to not inconvienince or subject nonsmokers to what is ultimately a really filthy habit. If it was easy to quit, I would but its the only vice I have left!!!

agree2, you sound like my dad. He too smokes, but I have NEVER seen him throw a cig butt out the window. To see anyone do that angers him. He, like you will put a cig butt in his pocket till he can properly throw it away. <BR><BR>He is as mad as anyone that the Missionary Ridge Fire may have been caused by a smoker. As a matter of fact while vacationing in Colorado he has been part of a bucket brigade working side by side with forest service workers to put out fires in the Poudre Canyon. If all smokers were the same as you, my dad & funonsmoker you might not see as much animosity. <BR>

Add me to the list of courtious smokers. I would NEVER consider throwing a cigarette butt out the window or drop it on the ground. We recently bought a new Volvo and believe it or not there is NO ASHTRAY built-in in the car. We have purchased a platic one though that fits perfectly in the drink holder. I would gladly turn in anyone who was stupid and disrespectful enough to litter by throwing a butt out! Carolanne

I don't understand the previous posts...is there something unsafe about Volvos? Off topic, but I am considering buying one myself but not interested if there has been any safety (fire?) issues. Becky

I am sure there are some smart/thoughtful smokers but I disagree with the poster who said MOST smokers are courteous around non-smokers. I can't stand even second hand smoke and I get headaches from it. I have lived with a roomate that always wanted to take her car out so she could smoke in it(instead of my car). I have about 10 relatives that smoke like chimneys regardless of where they are. I also now live next to a neighbor that constantly smokes his cigs in his front yard. At this point I could have filled more than one plastic zip lock bag with his butts litered all over my yard. These are just a few examples I've listed. I don't mean to start a war but most people have got to admit to themselves that it's a bad habit just as excessive drinking is. If people can complain about overweight people on here and how they enfringe on personal space then why can't the same be said for smoking? I don't care what you do as long as I can't smell it,see evidence of it or have to evacuate my home because of it. I agree that the people who are courteous get a bad rap because of these situations but unfortunatly that is life. I have one relative that converted to mormonism. She is a great person but there are still a lot of people that will make jokes/rude comments about her anyways, even though they don't really know her. It is sort of a generalization that you inherit when you take part in something questionable to some people.

And your point is? Europe certainly comes to mind when talking about recreational smoking. Perhaps europeans are more accustomed to it since so many of them smoke.

People in Italy and France do not suffer from lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema and other diseases. Therefore smoking is not a health problem in those countries. The death rate in Italy from tobacco related causes is virtually nil. Those who do have a problem are usually foreigners who have moved there because they have weak constitutions.<BR>In France, the same set of circumstances exist. Tobacco smoke obviously is not a health problem. If it was, as much as the French smoke, you would see corpses on the streets.<BR>I have yet to see a Frenchman wheezing from emphysema nor have I ever seen someone carrying an oxygen tank.<BR>So obviously, there is no problem.

LOL Coskier - there is hope afterall! If I had a penny for all the times a driver did something stupid/reckless (but there were never any police around) I would be rolling in dough! That is just plain unlucky (and lucky for some of us!).

Yep LenLeigh its pretty funny. Best thing about itis, not only the fine, which can be as much as 750.00, but you cannot just mail it in, you MUST appear in court, regardless of whether you live in Colorado or not. <BR>HA!

Love this idea!<BR>I cannot tell you how many times a lit cigarette has bounced off the hood of my car. I no longer travel with the windows down because I also have had the pleasure of a lit cigarette landing in my lap after being tossed from a car moving along side of me.<BR>I also read a report (can't remember where) of a woman who had an aerosol can explode in her face. Seems a lit cigarette landed in her grocery bags that were in the back of a pick up truck. She was very seriously burned. <BR>Most cars do not even come with ash trays anymore. Seems that it is an additional cost and you buy it as "extra"!!<BR>Please don't throw your lit cigarettes from your car!

This sounds crazy to me why cars would not come with ashtrays!! I haven't purchased a new car in the past 3 years but this makes no sense. Just because a car has an ashtray, doesn't mean it has be used as one. It's a great place to keep loose change. Where are smokers suppose to flick ashes? Are car makers brain damaged? Kenny
