Colorado River rafting

Want to do a FAMILY vacation in June 2000 with kids, spouses and us parents--all at least 25 yrs. Any suggestions as to which rafting companies? Only have 5 days.

What state? What town are you staying in?

Western River Expeditions is the biggest in the West and runs trips on the Colorado, the Green and the Salmon Rivers. I went on a four day trip to Cataract Canyon with them last year and it was fabulous. They take care of everything from excellent meals to camping equipment. Web site is www.westernriver.com. You should book though asap. Let me know if you have any questions.
So many rivers, so little time....I did a 5 day oar trip (they row) on the Green River in Utah though Desolation Canyon. It was wonderful. Company was Moki Mac River Expeditions. Business office in Salt Lake City. One brother in Green River, UT and another in Page, AZ. They run Westwater and grey Canyons, Desolation Canyon, Cataract Canyon and the Grand.

Just a comment on one of these companies. My husband used to raft with Moki Mac back when he was in college (nearly 30 years ago). He had nothing but praise for them, and it seems they have maintained thier reputation...something to consider.

More recently we took an overnight raft trip with Adventure Bound out of Grand Junction, CO
http://www.raft-colorado.com/
They were totally professional, well run, a pleasure to be with. But, it all depends on where you want to base yourself, which river you want to run, and because of the permit system (all these companies have permits to run, but they are for specific days) you need to go when they go, or find which company has the permit for the date you want to go.

Another thing to remember is that it can be dangerous (this is not Disney). My husband was in a small kayak style boat at one point which nearly everyone tried out during the trip. Remember, he has hd lots of river experience...he caught a rough spot and went under. When he tried to come up, he discovered he was under one of the large rafts which was looking for him! Nearly out of breath and disoriented, he relied on the experienc of his old river days to get out from under the large raft. Fortunately, he kept this all from me until we were safely back at the hotel. Then he told me how close he'd been to being in REAL trouble, and how someone with less experience would have been in very bad shape! So, please keep in mind that rafting can be dangerous, but lots of fun with the right company.
