Colorado in April
 

I have to go to The States in April and am keen to do some snowboarding in Colorado or perhaps Utah afterwards. (My business there will be done by the 17th.) Can anyone tell me whether it's worth it by then or is it too far into Spring?

Most places in CO will most likely be closed by then, even if they have a great year. The season is pretty much done by the first week of April as they schedule the closings based on date not snowfall because of the logistics of running ski resorts and planning ahead.

Do you know if it's the same in Utah?

I found this:
"Many Utah ski areas — including Alta, Brian Head, Brighton, Deer Valley, Park City and Solitude — will stay open until at least April 15.

Snowbird, perennially the last resort to close, has said it will remain open daily through April 30, and will remain open conditions permitting through mid-May. Two years ago, Snowbird stayed open weekends through July 4, 2005."

This was dated 4/14/07:

"Another Colorado ski season is nearing an end and resorts are hoping to at least match if not exceed last year's record numbers.

Closing this weekend are Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Keystone, and Beaver Creek. Also shutting down the lifts Sunday will be Copper Mountain, Eldora, Steamboat and Winter Park. Vail and Breckenridge close next weekend.

Wolf Creek will open this weekend, closed during the week, and open again next weekend.

Loveland and Arapahoe Basin will close later. Silverton Mountain will be open weekends through April.

Telluride, Crested Butte, Howelson, Buttermilk, Durango Mountain and Aspen Highlands are already closed. Powderhorn, Solvista and Monarch also are closed."

The major ski resorts will have closed by April 17, but Arapahoe Basin and Loveland stay open longer because they're at a higher altitude. A-Basin tries to stay open until the 4th of July (didn't make it this year). Sometimes the skiing can still be good, other times it's pretty mushy. Neither ski area has lodging on site, so you'd have to stay in Dillon or Frisco - but it would be super cheap! If you're really keen to try Colorado skiing or boarding, it can still be had that late!
