Colorado float trip - 2 questions
 

We are scheduled for the 1/2 day a.m. float trip out of Page Sept 8. I have two questions:

1. What to wear. Bathing suits or shorts? Water sandels or tennis shoes? How wet do you get and is there any swimming?

2. Should I take my digital camera or a water camera. I know this is smooth water but what are the chances that you get wet enough to do damage? This was on another thread but I can't find it.

The girl at Wilderness River Adventures was pretty vague on this. Thanks for your help!

Take your camera in a heavy plastic ziplock. anything is possible.

Appropriate rafting wear is shorts/pants in quick drying fabric - check out REI. Swim suit top for women possibly, but wear tons of sun screen and take a long sleeved, quick drying shirt for sun protection. The air is much cooler on the water too.

Wide brim hat with strap is a definite requirement. Sunglasses with strap too.

Protect your camera, some people can manage to fall out of a raft even on a float trip, or sometimes there are water fights between rafts.

I would not wear tennis shoes. They get wet, retain water and are heavy and take forever to dry.

For the camera, use an inexpensive waterproof disposable one. We were in Virgin Islands and friend was standing in waist high water, stumbled and there went the camera! I used a disposable and got great pics. Unless you are willing to take the risk...don't!

Dayl has great suggestions...hat and sunglasses WITH strap; waterproof sunblock and quick dry clothes as well as a change of clothes {dry and warm} for after.

One more thing...chapstick with a high SPF...nothing worse than sunburned lips!

Thanks all. I did buy one of the waterproof disposable cameras, but since this is smooth water I wasn't sure if I was being overly paranoid. Although I am a bit of a klutz so probably a good idea. I am really starting to look forward to this trip!
