Colorado doable in late April?
Sorry for the repost, trying to get it into the CO forum
We've seen ridiculously low airfare to Denver from NYC for week of 4/20 - 4/27. Have never been to CO, is it feasible to do the tourist thing in late April with 2 boys (6 and 2)? I understand many mountain roads are still closed, would we be able to travel between cities etc? Thanks. |
You will have no trouble moving around Colorado in April or even January. Very few roads are ever closed in the winter except for a few secondary mountain passes. You can travel between cities. We are part of the US and the Interstate Highway system so travel is as easy in Colorado as it is in New York.

Denver in April is beautiful, and yes you will be able to navigate with no or few problems, buy your tickets.

Thanks to all, have my tickets and rental car. Now, what should I do while there? We're coming in Monday early afternoon and leaving Saturday morning, so will have basically four days. We're from NYC so used to cities, etc., more interested in natural beauty that is in short supply in Brooklyn :)
Looking perhaps to stay 2 nights in Denver, two nights somewhere else, and last night near the airport for flight home. Thanks! |
I would recommend you do a little research, maybe get the Fodors Colorado book. Denver is a fun town with lots of sports and art. I really like Golden and Boulder for afternoon strolls (Boulder's Pearl St. mall is fun). Georgetown would make a good stopover when you drive into the mountains. And nothing beats spending the night in Glenwood Springs, soaking in the hot sulphur water. You'll smell it as soon as you come out of the canyon!
