Colorado and Wyoming
Me and my husband are thinking about going to stay some days in Boulder, Colorado, during Summer vacations, as a friend is staying ther as a teacher in the Boulder University. As we live in POrtugal, Europe, we want to enjoy the journey by visiting the Rocky Mountains and Aspen, but we wolud like to visit Yellowstone in Wyoming as well.
In 2006 we visited Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion and Lake Powell and we loved it, so we want to continue to visit the natural parks in the USA. What do you think? Is Yellowstone too far away for us to rent a car and do the trip? We appreciate all your suggestions. |
Whether or not you have time to fit in Wyoming depends on how much time you're planning for your trip. How long is your trip?
Also - to calculate driving distances between 2 points, use MapQuest. |
I live in Denver and it takes about 10 - 12 hours to reach Yellowstone. Yellowstone is one of my favorite places, so if you have the time I encourage you to make the drive. How many days would you like to spend in the park?
|
Several years ago we flew from Denver to Jackson, Wyoming. United had a very small plane going. It might be expensive but it would save a lot of time. The airport at Jackson is tiny.

It is just a question of time available and how time you want to spend traveling in a car. Aspen is about four hours southwest of Boulder and easily driven in day allowing for a few side trips.
Yellowstone as someone else said is about 12 hours due north and slightly west. It is really a two day trip. Also Yellowstone can be very crowded in the summer. You should have advance reservations. The university in Boulder is the University of Colorado or commonly called, CU. |
Thank you very much for your informations. We intend to be there for two weeks. In Boulder we'll stay in my friend's house, but we intend to rent a car and drive to Yellowstone. Can you tell us where to stay, what to see, either in Yellowstone, Denver and Boulder. Thank You.

While in Yellowstone, be sure not to overlook the Grand Teton national park just south of it. Very spectacular.

The following website should be a good start for planning your Yellowstone trip.
www.travelyellowstone.com I've stayed at the Old Faithful Inn, Old Faithful Snow Lodge and the Canyon Lodge and recommend all three. Are you visiting this summer or in 2009? |
I would stay at Old Faithful Inn while at Yellowstone. I would spend at least 4 days in Yellowstone and Tetons. Going in June would most likely be less crowded that July or August. But does have the potential to be colder and wetter.

You are being most helpful. We intend to stay 3 days in Boulder and during those days to once or twice to Denver. Than go to the Rocky Mountais and stay there 2 days.
Travel to Yellowstone and spend a night whereverer (can you suggest some place?). Stay at Yellowstone 3 days, than visit the Grand Teton during two days, and that's all, take the plane to Portugal. With this itinerary can you help me finding hotels, obligatory places to visit in the cities and in the parks. It's my first time in Colorado an Wyoming and I want it to be perfect as I loved las t year when I visited Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Lake POwell and Zion, it was perfect!!!!!! Thank you very much. |
