Colorado & New Mexico
We will travel to Colorado & New Mexico this summer and will spend 2 weeks there. We fly into Denver and out of Albq.. I have three sons aged 6 months, 6 years & 7years. Where should we be sure to visit? What in particular would appeal to the older boys? Any great hotels?
Thanks. Jeanne |
Consider Mesa Verde NP near Durango. The Indian cliffside dwellings are amazing, and kids love them. Lots of fun to climb and explore there. It could be a bit difficult, however, with a 6 month old.

thanks. any other thoughts?

My boys really liked Mesa Verde at those ages. Get a backpack for the 6 month old and carry him on the hikes...been there and done that many, many years ago!
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado National Monument, Pikes Peak. The boys might get a kick out of Florissant Fossil Bed National Monument not far from Colorado Springs. Great Sand Dunes is now a National Park and my boys always loved running on sand dunes! The drive on the Million Dollar Highway between Ouray and Durango is breathtaking. There is a lot of train stuff in Durango. Bandelier National Monument north of Albq. is also cliff dwellings that my boys liked. Just outside of Albq. is Petroglphy National Monument. Utahtea |

Thanks for your feedback. FYI, last year you gave me great info for a trip that we took to Utah. Never had a chance to thank you for your advice after we returned from our trip. It was one of our best trips! Thanks. Jeanne |
I very much agree with the suggestion of Mesa Verde. When we visited Santa Fe we just happened to be there when the Rodeo was in town. Our kids really enjoyed it. I don't know whether you'll run across one while you're in the area. But, if so, I suspect your boys would enjoy it.

You probably won't get over to Western colorado, but don't speed through Saguache!

thanks.
