Colonial Williamsburg housing
Has anyone stayed in the historical houses in Colonial Williamsburg? Was it worth the price? Are the rooms air conditioned? Do they have tv's? Some friends of ours are going to be in the Williamsburg area June 1 - 5 and asked us to come down. I thought I might like to stay on the property, but the only room available is in one of the taverns. It doesn't say which one. I'd appreciate any comments.

The rooms do have AC, I don't know about TVs, but I"m sure they do.
As far as value goes - I"ve not stayed as I don't think I'd feel like it was worth it, but many who have LOVED the rooms. Call 1-800-history and get accurate info, |
Some years ago we stayed in one of the colonial houses on Duke of Gloucester street and LOVED it. We had the main floor and out children had the second floor. Rooms had a connecting stair and could have been rented separately. It was very comfortable, with beautiful furnishings, great AC, and what to me was an exceptional luxury: plaster walls. Best of all was walking early in the morning, before day-trippers arrive, and really feeling like you had returned to a previous era.

I haven't stayed in one either but agree with marilynn. You might even have a period garden or sheep grazing outside your window.

Thanks for your comments. I visited Williamsburg two years ago and when we were on the ghost walk I noticed some people going into one of the colonial houses. I though how lucky they were; I didn't realize anyone could stay there. I'm not sure if we will go this year, but I want to sometime.

I had the pleasure of staying in one of the colonial houses a few years ago. It was a very memorable experience. The room was nice with a TV. It was warmly heated-this was February with snow outside. I really enjoyed being in the Colonial area, could easily walk to the tavern at night.
Colonial Williamsburg is one of my very favorite places in the US. |
We had the opportunity a few years ago and loved the room. It was incredibly nice and convenient to the historic area. It was like CW had built a state of the art room inside of a historic casing. The decorations were perfect recreations of classic antiques and everything was perfect. If you get the chance...
