Collierville, TN or Olive Branch, MS which is safer?

Within the next few months we will be relocating to the Memphis area. Having narrowed our choices down to Collierville or Olive Branch, which is a safer choice? You get more for your money in Olive Branch but wondered about the areas surrounding this community and the possibility of crime moving that way. Are we being paranoid or should be pay the higher prices and focus on Collierville?

Help!! Any fodorites have any good information regarding this post??

I have family who used to live in Collierville - but they moved away 10 years ago and I don't know anything about possible changes in the area since then. When they lived there, it was a fairly quiet suburb, seemed to have very low crime. I don't know anything about Olive Branch.

Well, all I can say is Olive branch is alot - and i mean alot less expensive to live in that Collierville. That place is very expensive for the area.

Personally, I'd look at Germantown

J_Correa Oct 29th, 2006 11:24 AM

Isn't Germantown more expensive than Collierville?

Sharon G,
Why Germantown? I also heard it was pricier that Collierville but I am open to any and all info and suggestions. Safety is a real issue for me. My husband will have to travel some, thus leaving me at home alone. So, for my own piece of mind, I want to be in a location that doesn't have a lot of crime. We are moving from an area that you can leave your doors unlocked and your garage door open at night (by accident of course) and nothing and nobody is bothered. I know this isn't a possibility in the Memphis area but want to have as close to that environment as possible.

Have you posted this on the TN section?

I would drive there and take a good look around. I would guess that they would be similiar as far as crime goes (basing this on growing up in W. TN., but I have no real knowledge of this).
You will NOT be able to leave doors unlocked - I don't know where you are moving from, but I would be interested to hear where you can still do that in America.
1 thing to consider - TN does not have a state income tax, this might be a factor for you.
I will try to check with some relatives regarding your crime question.

I should have said I think they are both relatively safe areas.

Well there is no TN section. Any questions posted on the US Board ends up on the US Board. If someone is looking for specific information regarding TN and clicks on TN if any thread titles indicate TN they that person will be able to click on those post.

Personally japw82, I would contact the local PD of any and all cities/towns you are thinking of possibly moving to and asking for the crime statistics. At least in CA that would give one a good idea regarding various areas and the safety factory. Best wishes.

When you post a new topic, you can pick which section you want it to come up in when someone searches - if she picks "Tennessee", when people search Tennessee, they will see her message.

Germantown is probably the safest area and is pretty upscale. I lived in Memphis for awhile and lived on Mud Island which I loved but probably wouldn't suit a growing family. Germantown was always the place that everybody wanted to move to in order to be safe. I still have friends that live there and they like it very much.
