college tour in NY--where to stay?

We're going to visit (I think in this order) Union College, Skidmore, Sarah Lawrence, possibly Vassar. Then we'll head into Connecticut to see Wesleyan. We'll need at least one and maybe two places to spend the night. Are there any memorable places to stay near one of these campuses?

Thanks!

There's a hotel in Poughkeepsie not far from Vassar called Inn at the Falls. I myself have not stayed there, but people I know who have rave about the place, the atmosphere, the antiques, etc. Their phone number is 843-462-5770.

We have done a similar trip. When we looked at Skidmore we stayed at The Gideon Putnam- it was memorable but not in a good way. Not far from Saratoga Springs, where Skidmore is, is the Sagamore resort. We have gone up there for little weekend getaways, look into it, it's a nice place.

For your visits to Union and Skidmore, stay in Saratoga Springs. There are many places you might choose including the Gideon Putnam. However, I'd stay at the Adelphi, a beautiful Victorian inn dating from 1877 (http://www.adelphihotel.com). It is in the center of town, so you can walk most everywhere - antique and speciality shops, and a fantastic book store. There are many wonderful restaurants, too.
