College Students headed to Cape May
 

A few of my friends and I are trying to plan a 2-3 day midweek trip to Cape May in a few weeks. We're driving down from NYC.

None of us have ever been there before, so I would appreciate any and all advice you have.

A few questions -
Is there any particular area of Cape May where we would want to stay or is the whole area all the same?

Some of the activities we have in mind are boating, whale/dolphin watching, beach... For someone who cannot walk long distances (had knee surgery several weeks ago), what other activities would you reccommend?

Do you know of any specific place that rents out speedboats hourly?

Any hotel you suggest, ready to spend approx $100-$150 a night? Probably we'd want overlloking the water..

What month are you planning to travel? Anytime before labor day, you're going to have a really hard time finding a hotel -- let alone oceanfront -- under $150. Cape May hotels run around $225, even on weeknights, and most of them have three night minimums. :-/

So we actually finally booked a hotel - $199 for a suite facing the ocean in Wildwood.. ;-)

Now we're working on activities to do there...

So far what we came up with - whale/dolphin watching, speedboating, biking around Cape May, beach, CM zoo, lighthouse, maybe kayaking....

Any other ideas?

Any other nice towns in the area worth visiting?

Take a look at www.ajmeerwald.org. to see if the Delaware Bay schooner will be in Cape May when you are there. The ship takes passengers on excursions of varying lenghths and is quite an experience.

Esty, it sounds like you pretty much have it covered. The boardwalk in Wildwood is a lot of fun so be sure to visit that. There is much negative info about Wildwood but I think it is fine. My daughter and some friends spent a week down there in June, and never felt unsafe. Wildwood is known for its doo-wop architecture so take note of that and enjoy!
