College Park, MD business trip
I occasionally visit College Park for work; I usually stay in DC and take metro there. I'd like to save some money and cut out the commute, but it doesn't look like my hotel choices in College Park are very good. I also like to be near decent restaurants, and it's nice to stay in DC, where there's always something to do in the evening (even if it's just walking around). So, can anyone recommend a town/area within easy commuting distance of College Park, that might have good hotel and restaurant choices and would just generally be a nice town to stay in? Or is staying in DC my best bet? Thanks.

Some people like Silver Spring, MD from where u could still take the red line to CP from there. There are a few hotels and some retaurants, movie theaters, shopping.
http://www.silverspringcenter.com/ Bethesda, MD is nice, but a long commute on the Red Line and a miserable drive to CP. Lots of hotels and restaurants, movie theaters and shopping in Bethesda. http://www.downtownbethesda.com/ I don't think there is much around the College Park area that can come even close to DC in terms of choices of restaurants and things to do. |
As I'm sure you're aware, College Park is on the Green Line. Since you don't like your options in CP (and I agree about that), your best bet is to stay in downtown DC or Dupont Circle. Bethesda won't work until they finish the Purple Line, which should be mid-century or so.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. As EricH stated CP is on the Green line. U would need to take the Red Line to Ft Totten to get on the Green line to CP from SS. Its about a 30 minute commute during rush hour. From Bethesda u would take the Red line to Gallery Place and change to the Green line to CP. Probably would take about 45 minutes or so

In College Park, the best location for what you asking for is:
Quality Inn and Suites 7200 Baltimore Ave, College Park, MD Just south of campus, a few blocks to downtown College Park and an easy 5-minute walk through Old College Park eresidential area to the Metro Station. |
Thanks, that's helpful. I'll check into Silver Spring and the CP Quality Inn, and see if the cost difference is big enough to make me feel okay about not staying in DC.

I grew up ten minutes from the College Park campus and don't ever want to go back. Prince George's County is a pretty much a dump. The only restaurant of quality is Jerry's Seafood in the Lanham-Seabrook area. Jerry's Seafood is famous for the Crab Bomb, a creation favorably mentioned by the Washington Post restaurant critic, Tom Sietsema. How Jerry's Seafood can make money in Seabrook is beyond my knowledge.
