Minus 40C (which is pretty much the same as minus 40F) in Whitehorse, Yukon, for a couple of days, and then I went back to Edmonton, and it was minus 45C.

I cross country skiied(sp?) in -25 degrees F in Northern Minnesota one Christmas vacation. But being in the woods helped (protected from wind), and layering clothes, with no skin exposed (face mask on), makes it actually enjoyable. You create body heat working so hard. Just don't stop skiing, or you will feel cold after a few minutes.

Another vote for NE Minnesota. I was there one Christmas, the Fargo news showed people tossing up cups of water. The water froze in the air and came down as ice. We rarely left the hose the whole week. Another time I was there for 4th of July. I seem to recall it was 28 degrees (someone here may prove me wrong) Anyway we were watching the fireworks and we were freezing.

I meant house not hose, sorry for the typo.

San Francisco on the Fourth of July! :D

The coldest place I've ever been to is right here in Buffalo for the past 44 winters. Right now it is 12 degrees. If I were going out somewhere (in my car - not out walking) I'd probably put gloves on!
In December I'm dreaming of a white Christmas and by January 15th I'm dreaming of a white sand beach! |
I think my bedroom this morning! I sleep with the window open and it's -19 right now. (I got up and closed the window).
|
BuffaloGirl, you reminded me that I lived in Pennsylvania as a kid during the blizzard of '77 (I think that was the year). Not much fun and pretty darned cold for native Texans!
|
BuffaloGirl, I relate to everything you say. My SIL lives in Buffalo, and we always play the "it is so cold here" game. She usually wins. But she also told me, and I have not bothered to confirm this--that WI and Buffalo share the same latitude? Who knows. What I do know is yesterday, as I ran some errands when it was -2 (not wind chill mind you) I poured our my semi warm coffee on the driveway and it froze immediately.
|
StephCar: I just did a quick google search of latitude for Buffalo and Milwaukee. They're close...very close!
Statia: The blizzard of 1977 is correct. It was an experience I will never forget. Here are some pix of the blizzard: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/buf/blizzard/blizphoto.html |
Chicago, yesterday.

Quebec City, two years ago the week between Christmas and New Years. Beautiful though, and had a difficult time resisting buying those wonderful fur hats!
|
My hometown: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Known affectionately as "Winterpeg" -35 celsius weather in winter usually accompanied by a "wind chill" which makes the temperature about -50 or so.

2 places
2)Standing in Red Square in Moscow at the end of Nov. with the cold air coming off the river running up through Red Square. 1)Standing on the tarmac at Warsaw Airport waiting to get on a LOT prop plane to Berlin. It was so cold, I was near blue. Then a prop plane up the tarmac started its engine blowing cold air our way. I was last in line and I was blue when I got to my seat. I shook fevorously for the first 10 minutes in the plane. That is the coldest I have ever seen it. |
BuffaloGirl, great shots! Thanks for the memory.
We moved from Texas to Pennsylvania in the fall of that year and my poor mother hadn't a clue what to do being trapped alone in a blizzard with two small children. Needless to say, we were back in Texas before the first day of spring. :) Is that still the worst blizzard on record for that area? I know it was at that time. |
My IN-LAWS every HOLIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
The upper seats in Soldiers Field in Chicago in the winter with the wind, snow and sleet coming off the lake. whoa
|
Statia: YES!
|
Statia, I posted too soon.....
....just want to say that your mother was/is a smart woman if she got you out of PA after that blizzard. She deserves the trip you talk about! |
Thanks, BuffaloGirl. :) Mom and I actually talked about the blizzard on the phone last night.
