Cold in New York

I'm taking my DIL and 6 year old grandson to NYC for 5 days in a couple of weeks. They've never been there, but I was born and raised there and know it pretty well - altho I live in So. FL now. We're staying at the Park Central Hotel. As my DIL is Brazilian and not used to cold, cold weather (she freezes when the temp. reaches 55 here in South Florida), I'm trying to come up with a few in-door places to go that they would enjoy. Of course, we'll go to the Museum of National History, and Toy R Us, Top of the Rock, and already have tickets for Tarzan, and have a few food places figured out...but need some advice about where we can go to escape the bitter cold...any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

There are so many indoor activities/entertainment. You can easily spend an entire day in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

I suggest that your DIL dress in layers since you can't avoid the out-of-doors completely. Once indoors, she can remove layers in accordance with her comfort. I suffer from the cold as well. That's how I manage.

Better bring your mink coats because we are living in Siberia here in the Northeast this week. Below 0. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Yes, be glad you're not here this week. Here are a couple of Floridians bundled up like mummies who are freezing to death. Wind chills way below zero. It stings the face just stepping outside. But this won't last.

Tons of museums - don;t miss the Ellis Island Immigration Museum - which is brilliant.

The boat ride will be chilly but you can stay inside - and the 6 year old won;t care. And you'll get a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty without waiting on a huge line just to see the base.

Museums, shopping, theater and eating are all great and all indoors.

The Tenement Museum is popular with kids. Book in advance. Sonylab can be fun for your grandson.

Forgot to mention gocitykids.com is a good website to find things for kids by age or date.

nycvisit.com has a calendar of events you can check for ideas too.

newvictory.org is a family theater might be fun.

I normally don't suggest Madame Tussaud's 'cuz it's too pricey, but there are 2 seasonal promotions right now that would reduce the price.
seasonofsavings.com
nycvisit.com/paint

You might find some other discounts/ideas there.
