coastal cruise in maine?
 

Anyone have anything to report on one of these cruises? I am looking at one that leaves Rockport area in Maine, in mid-June, on one of the older '30s-era small ships that used to be used for fishing. Looking for something quiet, scenic, relaxing _ sounds like this would fit the bill but would love to hear opinions.

Haven't done this personally but have seen lots of happy folks embarking and just as happy (and more sunburned) ones disembarking. <BR><BR>Some ships come up to the mouth of the Penobscot River and explore the small islands around Deer Isle, Bucks Harbour, Castine etc. Some even camp out on one of the islands, though that may be reserved for groups affiliated with the Nature Conservancy. <BR><BR>Looks like fun, but I am not kidding about the "lobster look": do bring sunblock if you decide to go!

I assume you're talking about a windjammer cruise? I did one a few years ago. It's a terrific and relaxing experience for certain travelers. The cruise goes wherever the winds take it. Primary activities include meeting people, reading (be sure to bring a good book) watching the world go by, and eating (a friend and seasoned windjammer sailer warned me to wear pants with elastic waistbands...the food is terrific and plentifull). The cabins are cosy (tiny). Don't plan on a romantic voyage unless you're an exhibitionist! So, if this sounds like the kind of experience you'd like, go for it. If you like privacy and comfort, look elsewhere! <BR>PS. I sailed on the Angelique out of Camden, ME, and it was an excellent craft, built for passengers (i.e. showers below deck, passenger lounge). You may want to check it out.
