Priceline Help for Elderly Couple
My parents won a trip to Las Vegas to see Celine Dion. They are staying one night at the Monte Carlo (paid by the sponsor) and they want to spend two more nights (Friday and Saturday - Aug. 15+16)in Las Vegas. They are in their early 80's, able to get around but won't have a car. They don't gamble, but would like to see a couple shows. I can't find any great deals on hotels, but thought we might try the Marriott Courtyard or the Residence Inn near the convention center. They seem like nice, quiet and clean -- and lots less $ than the hotels right on the strip. My question for anyone who knows the area... How far away from the strip is the convention center? Will they be able to get a bus to the shows? Any advice at all? Thanks.

You should call the hotels directly and see what price you may get. You'd be surprised how cheap of a hotel you can get on the strip. My honest opinion, your parents should stay on the strip. Try calling the Imperial Palace. They always have cheaper deals than other hotels. My friend always stay there. It's a decent hotel located right in the middle of the strip. Sometimes they have great weekend rates for $50-$60 dollars. I'd try them first. The Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn are too far. They may have to catch a cab to get around if they stay at one of those hotels. I'd check Imperial Palace first.
Good Luck!!

The best thing to do is just have them book two more nights at the Monte Carlo. The Impreial Palace is not the nicest place nor the cleanest to stay, pretty old compared to the other strip hotels. Go online to find the cheapest rates at the Monte Carlo. It won't be that expensive puls it's a nice hotel and they won't have to worry about moving luggage, repacking, etc.Cabs are everywhere to take them where ever they might need to go.

I agree with just staying at the Monte Carlo. Perhaps they could come two days earlier and stay Tuesday, Wednesday and their free night on Thursday. Midweek is always much cheaper and less crowded than weekends.

After you've checked the rates at Travelocity and Expedia for the Monte Carlo, it might be a good idea to call the hotel directly and ask them for their best rates with AARP discount if they are members. We called the hotel directly in San Francisco and got a better deal than on the internet.

I agree with calling the hotel directly. Ask to speak with someone in Sales or Marketing or the Hotel Manager - NOT Reservations. Give them a big sell on how excited your parents are, how they really want to stay a couple of extra nights, but are on a VERY LIMITED fixed budget (etc, etc, etc.) and how you're worried about them having to move to another hotel (yatta, yatta, yatta) and "oh how excited they are" (and so on, and so on, and so on) - in other words talk their hearts out. I'll bet you get really cheap rooms - if not comped. Vegas hotels do this sort of thing for gamblers all the time and the sales and marketing departments are always up for some good PR. If you're not the best "talker" in your family, get someone who is to do the job.
I've worked in this business and the bottome line is this, if you've got a good story or a worthy cause someone will want to help out. It makes them feel good about themselves. You just have to get to THAT one someone who has the authority and present your case Wouldn't you help someone like your parents if you had the power? I would. Good Luck.
