Clothes to pack/Guerneville,SF &Monterey

2 days in each place next week! I've heard SF can be cool and wine country can be hot, so I am in need of suggestions. Thank you

Right on both counts. Just pack for the warm weather and take a sweater or hooded sweatshirt for S.F. Actually it is not that cool in the daytime in July in San Fransisco unless you are right on the coast. We took the ferry to Alcatraz and were very glad of our sweatshirts with hoods-- very windy.

"Dress in layers" works best. I travel with the coolest + layers to add if needed. Be prepared for 65-100+, and it can change quickly, one recient week, 30 degree drop overnight. Hope you have a fabulous visit!

I agree with bodi. I'm in SF and right now, the wind is blowing, the fog is in and it is about 55 degrees outside. The weather report says that it will be 80 degrees by Thursday. you just never know. That's why we see so many tourist wearing SF sweatshirts that they buy on fisherman's wharf once they get here! Guerneville should be hot though.

Making it more complicated - the hotter it gets inland, the generally colder it is on the coast and in SF. And as it cools off inland (most of our heat waves only last a few days) it warms up in SF.

one day last week it was 103F in napa and 66F in SF - this week it is supposed to be in the 80's in both places.

Dressing in layers is the way to go in SF.

Check out the forecast on www.weather.com just before you start to pack. Enjoy your trip to CA!

Layers layers layers. You shouldn't need anything heavier than a windbreaker over a sweater or sweatshirt.

I was on the coast just north of Monterey over the weekend. Friday was really warm, actually pretty hot for the area - shorts and sandals weather. Saturday was nice and sunny and warm. Sunday was foggy and cool.

Bbbrrrr...Dark, Cold and Windy here right now, but the weather wands are saying it may be a scorching heat wave again by the weekend.
Good point above, always a perfect excuse to go shopping!
And please be careful, our fire season is always serious.

While layers are great, let me also add a recommendation for silk.

Cotton is a horrible insulator.Silk feels cool when it's hot, and is warm when it's cool. If you have any silk tshirts, bring them.

Gurneville is very casual. I would bring water shoes as if you are going to the beach (in back of Safeway), it can be (rounded)rocky! If you are going to J's amusements the go-karts are very fun. We really like the Pee wee golf there too.Have fun!
