Clinton, New York State
With visitors from the UK, my husband and I are planning to spend July 4th in Clinton, NY for a "home town" 4th of July experience (Parade, fireworks etc). We are then travelling to Boston to arrive on July 6th to visit family. Therefore we are looking for something interesting to see on the 5th of July between Clinton, NY and Boston, MA.
Can anyone suggest what might be of interest? Our guests are history / train buffs and also interested in a good hike - no shopping or "fun" parks. Thanks !! |
Clinton is a small town outside of Utica, so it's about 4.5 hrs direct drive to Boston. You will pass directly through the Berkshire area of western MA - many small towns, lots of history.
Normal Rockwell Museum in W. Stockbridge, Prospect Mtn about 30min north of there makes for a great hike. Numerous hotels in the Lenox MA area. There's also Tanlgewood performing arts center - summer home of the Boston Symphony |
There is a Clinton, NY near Rhinebeck as well.

Your interests seem perfect for the Berkshires. There are so many options that it's hard to identify just one. And you'll pass right through Stockbridge if you take I-90, which is the most direct route. It's also about halfway to Boston, so it's the ideal stopping point.

Great, thanks all for your replies! I will definitely do my research for the Berkshires. Cheers!
