CLEVELAND TRIP

Driving by car, what is the best way to get there from Buffalo/Niagara. Also staying at the Ritz-Carlton. Can any one give me pointers/advice on travelling to Cleveland and the area i am staying in,which is close to Horseshoe Casino (actually using comps for the hotel stay). Thanks for any info.

Hi sworl,

I'd not heard of the Horseshoe Casino but you're in the heart of downtown Cleveland, it seems. My favorite things to do in Cleveland were:

1. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I loved their section on the "precursors to rock".
2. Going to Lakeview Cemetery and climbing up the mausoleum dedicated to former president James A. Garfield. Handsome grounds, unbelievable building, beautiful views of the Cleveland skyline and Lake Erie.
3. Taking the Red Line out to Ohio City and browsing through West Side Market. There are some picturesque streets right around that are worth a strol with some charming houses, including the birth home of John Heisman of the famous Heisman Trophy.
4. Cleveland Museum of Art, which is one of my favourite art museums in the USA and free to boot.
5. Nearby the Cleveland Museum of Art is the Case Western Reserve campus, which has some lovely buildings. Nearby Wade Lagoon and Little Italy make for pleasant exploratory strolls.
6. The sights of Downtown Cleveland can seem deserted, but in my opinion, they're underappreciated. The Soldier & Sailors Monument, The Old Stone Church, The Arcade, The Fountain of Eternal Life were all interesting.

Have a great trip! Daniel

Do you want to drive to any of these places and pay $10 to get there and get $15 of slot play? http://www.horseshoecleveland.com/ho...l#.UQ0pufLP_gs
My most recent trip to Cleveland was on Amtrak. The Lake Shore Limited leaves Buffalo-Depew about midnight every night.

If you're driving, I-90 is a straight shot of about four hours from Buffalo to Cleveland. However, it's always a crapshoot this time of year because of the possibility of lake effect snow and ice.

The Horseshoe Casino is essentially down the street and around the corner from the hotel. There are a number of good and fun restaurants within safe walking distance of the hotel, especially on East 4th St., and West 3rd-6th Sts. Iron Chef Michael Symon's highly-rated Lola is on East 4th, near the House of Blues. That's about a block from the casino.

Around West 25th St. you can find some interesting bars, microbreweries, and distilleries. Parking is available there, although you might want to consider using a taxi.

The hotel charges about $25 for valet parking, but you may be able to use the underground deck at Tower City for less.

Drive carefully and have a good time!

sworl,

If you're ready for a break after you cross the line into Ohio, there are several wineries still open in winter. Best exits are Geneva and Madison.

Once at the Horseshoe, you're in walking distance of some great choices on E 4th. If you want to stretch a little, you can hit The Corner Alley for brews, burgers and bowling (across from House of Blues). Great seafood at Bluepointe Grill.

If you feel like exploring, you can catch the Rapid Transit underground at Tower City.

Have a great time!

FYI the Cleveland Amtrak station is less than a half mile from the R&R HoF on the south side of the highway. The trains arrive early in the morning in Cleveland.

In addition to my earlier enquiries....my friend and i have now switched hotels and are now staying at the Sheraton Airport Cleveland Hotel, we wanted our own rooms, so since I have Sheraton "points" ended up at that location. Anybody have any info on the airport area, according to google maps, it is about 20 minutes from downtown area, but if someone has different info, could you let me know. Thanks so much.

Not that much around the airport.(Mostly industrial) There are a few restaurants, (Bombers Squadron, Grayton Tavern-both you have to drive to.) Other that that, you have to drive about 10-15 min. It's about a 1/2 hr drive to downtown. Not sure what else you are looking for.

The Sheraton Airport Hotel?

RTA has a Rapid stop at the airport. You can ride the Red Line to Terminal Tower in 30 min for $2.25 and find lots to do downtown (see above).
