Cleveland Shopping Districts

Hi all, my husband and I are going to Cleveland 10/8-10 to celebrate our anniversary. We are going to stay at the Ritz Carlton and visit the Christmas Story House on Saturday, which he has always wanted to see. We will probably eat at Sokolowski's and Lolita , although I am still pondering what to do for brunch (Lucky's Cafe, West Side Market Cafe, Latitude 41N) that isn't too far from downtown. We will have our car but it would be nice to walk to things or take public transportation. Anyway, wondering where we could walk around and shop? I know the Ritz is attached to the Tower City Center. Any other areas of town that would have a nice collection of shops to look around? We may also check out Velvet Tango Room at some point as well, which sounds pretty intriguing.

DH and I were just in Cleveland for a long weekend and were surprised at the lack of shopping in the downtown area. So I am curious to hear what others say. the Tower City Center was a waste as far as shopping was concerned. If you are interested in music, don't miss the Rock Hall of Fame. easily walked to from the Ritz. You are also within walking distance of the West 4th Street area of restaurants. Lola is there (the sister to Lolita.

I do not know what kind of shopping you are looking for, unfortunately there is very little downtown. The West side market, on west 25 is fabulous. Lots of little ethnic markets and vegetables. You could go there for lunch one day, buying small amounts from different stands.

For art galleries, bakeries and Italian eateries try Little Italy which is in walking distance from University circle where the Museums are located. You can ride the special buses down Euclid ave, called the health line, to Little Italy.

You can take the rapid transit to Shaker square on Sat. morning. There is a Farmers Market from 8-12 with lots of merchandise, art, jewelry, soap, clothes. There are shops and restaraunts in this area.

Up Cedar hill from downtown in Cleveland Hts is the Coventry area, lots of little funky shops, counterculture area.

For traditional shopping there is Beachwood Mall, further up cedar Ave in Beachwood. Nordstroms, Dillards, many shoe and clothing shops. There are several other large malls and shopping districts out in the suburbs.

Head to the Beachwood Mall area but make sure you go to Legacy Village which is an upscale outdoor mall shopping destination with lots of neat shops and restaurants. The Mall and the Village are almost across the street from one another.
