Cleveland hotels

We will be in Cleveland for 2 or 3 weekend nights, driving east on the turnpike and stopping to see the Rock and Roll HoF, Tremont area, art museum, west side market and whatever else strikes our fancy. This will be our first trip to Cleveland. From reading posts, I don't think a hotel in the downtown area is for us. The Glidden is booked. We usually like B&Bs but the ones on line don't look appealing. We are now thinking of staying at a place like the Hampton Inn but outside of town -- Is there a suburban area that makes most sense for our stay? thanks in advance.

Cleveland has some nice hotels but I have never stayed in one as we live a half hour from there so I will hopefully give you a few areas to look at. Cuyahoga Falls Sheraton is a lovely hotel with a great dining view...we eat there often: http://www.sheratonakron.com/
Closer to Cleveland: Chagrin Falls, is an upscale small town where we have also enjoyed having dinner, the Inn seems to have mixed reviews: http://www.bbonline.com/oh/chagrinfalls/index.html
Closer to the Lake is Geneva State Lodge, have never eaten there but have walked the area and it seemed quite nice: http://www.thelodgeatgeneva.com/PackagesEvents.aspx
If I can be of better help please let me know.

DH advises Rockside, 15min to downtown Cleveland: http://www.embassyclevelandrocksideh...FUcQNAodOjbYiA

Thanks, cd, to you and DH --we are leaning toward staying in Rockside given its convenient location.

You're welcome Ginny. You might want to consider a dinner cruise on the Goodtime. She's right beside the Rock and Roll HOF and you get to see Cleveland from the water. http://www.goodtimeiii.com/cms/

I think you should rethink staying downtown. Why stay in an Embassy Suites in Independence when you can stay at the Marriott downtown or the Renaissance? All will be very similar and nothing like a small B&B. Why is staying in downtown not for you based on posts on here? Curious. I live 20 min east of downtown but I have stayed at the Renaissance before and I highly recommend it. My Scottish inlaws have stayed at the Marriott and they loved it.

I used to work by the hotel you are talking about in Rockside Road, that is a business area and not that appealing when all the things you want to see are in Downtown or just west of it.
