CLEAR-ing through security - any experiences?
This may be an air travel issue but it's only available in certain major US airports (and Austin, which isn't major but may be connected to the business). Has anyone used or enrolled with CLEAR?
Here's the description from the website: At participating airports, look for the CLEAR lane at TSA security checkpoints. A CLEAR team member will greet you at our lane. Just scan your boarding pass, tap your finger and we?ll escort you straight to physical screening. It's that easy! Information? |
tap your finger?

I have TSA pre-check, which works pretty well and the lines are rarely long. I can't see that Clear would give any additional advantage - I might be able to skip ahead of a few people and save 5-10 minutes.

It is in so few airports and almost none of my hubs so I haven't given it a thought really - since even at some of those you still have to show your ID to a TSA agent.
If I was a big Delta user I might because they are going to give it free to their premium ff members. I understand there will be more airports on board later this year -- if precheck starts to bog down then I might look in to it. |
It sounds like the automatic scanning machines that I saw in the European airports I flew out of? Maybe? But I don't see much point in enrolling (or airports having it if they still put people there to escort you.)

So, you get there light years ahead of the time the plane is going to be opened for business much less have an actual crew aboard and you zip through Security and then what? Get into the so-called "line lice" group at the gate?
I fly out of an airport where the Pre-check line doesn't often open early in the morning because apparently not enough people have come in from their stop at Dunkin' to staff the thing. Is this Clear thing going to change that behavior? |
Ah ... privatization ... wonderful, eh? ... another way for private companies to charge for marginal improvements to government services. No thanks ... Nexus, with its ability to use global entry and precheck does me just fine
