"The OP wants to pay $50-$70 per week."
Which is why only couchsurfing is likely to work. |
I'm still not clear as to what the OP really wants.
Besides the price they seem to want someone who will: Allow them to cook meals in the room - so they can avoid paying for eating out Help them to get around - not sure if this means just giving them instructions to get places or if they are looking for someone who will act as a tour guide - or provide transit in the person's car These things are usually NOT part of couchsurfing - so not sure where that leaves them. As for the mention above for a women's shelter - first, they would not qualify since they are not indigent and - more importantly - they are NOT safe. |
Family
Travelers' Aid Society Informal shelter (Church basement?) with permission. The OP does not seem to have a firm grasp on the reality of NYC, though she has a Metrocard. If she is real, I agree with Doug that both she and her daughter are likely to be in danger. |
The OP basically didn't have the budget to go to NYC in the first place and now wants a freebie. I thought the $50-70 in the title was a misprint until she reiterated it in her post. This is one of the more ludicrous things I've seen on this board. Unless she can couchsurf, which is supposed to be a far shorter-term arrangement than a whole week, she should just eat the plane tickets and use whatever credit she has left (after rebooking fees) for a time when family can actually put her up.
Good gosh. |
<I would like help with getting around with someone with us >
Does this mean someone to accompany them? |
Oh come on guys - this is a troll! It's summer, the kids are home from school and some bored middle or high school are funning with you!
|
Vina just joined. This has to be a joke.
|
Nice to have a troll breathe some life into the U.S forum from time to time...........
|
If this is a troll great.
Sadly, I'm afraid it's not. And it seems suspicious that the family and friends can;t take them at the last moment. Perhaps they never intended to be imposed on for a week by people trying to see NYC without paying anything. (We had a niece from FL visit for a week - but we had a spare room and 2 daughters about the same age to amuse her/show her the city. Most people in Manhattan don;t have that luxury - esp for 2 people that seem to want meals as well.) |
Did anyone else think it odd that a woman (presumably) mentions her daughter's cousin's place? Wouldn't you say "my sister's" or "my brother's" place? or even "my sister-in-law's" or "my brother-in-laws" place rather than "my daugher's cousin's place"?
|
most certainly
|
>>Did anyone else think it odd that a woman (presumably) mentions her daughter's cousin's place?<<
Actually - that was just about the only part of the OP that didn't seem odd to me . . . ;) (Lots of folks - including some in my own extended family - typically speak in terms of the same generation. "cousin's . . . " instead of "sister's children's . . . " or whatever . . .) |
I think I'm just gullible. She sounded a bit desperate. But I'm coming around to the troll idea.
|
Whatever (troll or not), this is a really amusing thread to read!
|
Well, she said "this coming week", so it's quite possible she's been abducted by the people who offered to let them stay with them for $3 each per night. We'll probably never know.
|
I have a lovely 5x5 piece of gently used cardboard convenient to subway, (actually it's in the subway) that I can let you have for $70 a week. I'll throw in a subway map for free to help you get around.
|
I took the "daughter's cousin place" to mean that they are on her husband's side of the family rather than hers - know someone else who qualified relationships that way.
|
"I have a metro card and willing to get another for my daughter"
Yes I would advise that you do. |
