Civilian Visit to Schofield Barracks and Kolekole Pass

We are US citizen civilians and would like to visit Schofield Barracks and Wheeler AFB in a rental car on a Sunday in January, 2018. We would also like if at possible to drive the road from there over Kolekole Pass. When I were a wee pup I was the IBM marketing rep assigned to both of those bases and I'd like to take my wife back so we can see how much has changed in the 50 years since I left there. Probably very little but it might be worth a peek. (I'm kidding, of course.)

If it is possible, barring national security alerts at the time, what documentation, advance permission, and other information do we need to know, please?

I am not sure if they will issue you a visitor's pass or not. Many bases have a building outside the gate for info and visitor's passes. I would look for that. The personal at the gate doesn't normally do that. They are just there to check military id.
