Citywalk at Univ. Studios - recommend it?
 

Will have an evening free in orlando and was wondering if Citywalk is as entertaining or more entertaining than Pleasure Island at WDW. Is it worth purchasing the club pass at CityWalk? Which restaurants would you recommend? <BR> <BR>Thanks.

I was there two weeks ago on a Monday night and it was absolutely dead. I am told that weekends are really hopping but weekenights at least dueing the fall are very quiet. We were unimpressed with the menus at all the restaurants we perused - my coworker and I were just looking for a quick casual bite to eat before seeing music at City Jazz. All the places we checked seemed to have menus of the generic chain/theme restaurant variety. There was a place with Jamaican food that I thought of trying but we ended up at Motown Cafe - mediocre food and marginal service. There is a 16 year old local kid - Marcus Machado - playing MOnday nights at City Jazz. The bass player (who is his dad) and the drummer are pedestrian and Marcus is a bit awkward on stage as well as needing some vocal training but... he lays Jimi Hendrix music on guitar and is an absolutely astonishing guitarist. I've been a Hendrix fanatic for nearly thirty years and this guy is the real deal. If that vein of music appeals to you he is well worth hearing.

We went in Sept. '99 & thought it was great overall. We went 3 times & ate at Motown, Hardrock & Margaritaville. Thought the food ( & Margaritas ! ) at Margaritaville were the best. Seemed to be plenty of people there...

Bob Marley's is a great place to eat. The club/party pass is the best deal so you can club-hop without paying admission again and again. Hate to say it because I hate anything Disney as a rule, but CityWalk isn't quite as good as Pleasure Island...

I've been to Downtown Disney twice and CityWalk once. Downtown Disney is my preference. It cost $7 to park at CityWalk and we didn't end up going into any of the restaurants or buying anything in the stores. I was truly disappointed. Downtown Disney, on the other hand, has free parking and plenty of restaurants and stores to enjoy. Since I have a 9 year old, we like going to the Rainforest Cafe. The Virgin Record Megastore is cool and the Disney Store (if you're into that sort of thing) is probably the biggest in the country.

One extra note: at least on weeknights (not certain about weekends)... parking is free after 6PM at CityWalk - they charge only during the day.

Scott, I was there last week at Disney and Universal and I much prefer Downtown Disney. It seemed to us there is more to see and do at DD than Citywalk. We did eat at Margaritaville and thought it was ok but not as good as Hard Rock at Disney. <BR> <BR>Have a great time.

Just back -- we had a very very good dinner at the Latin Quarter (?) Citywalk place. Service was good, cute decor, good Flamenco dance floor show! I think it makes a difference when these places are busy -- obviously there were a lot of people there between Christmas and New Years. A year ago was there with a bunch of people from work -- We enjoyed Marley's for drinks and dancing...Margaritaville seemed kind of hokey. Downtown Disney probably works better for families with little kids.
